Are You Going to Make Next Year Different Than This Year?

A couple years ago I was standing in the kitchen with my husband. We were having a heated discussion about money and he finally looked at me and said “I think you’re gong to have to go get a job”. I had a one year old baby at the time, was still breastfeeding and getting a job was NO WHERE on my radar. It was not even in the realm of my possible futures.

I burst out crying.

I was doing everything I knew how to do and it just wasn’t working. I was in front of my computer more hours a day than I would be working if I had a J-O-B and still had nothing much to show for it. It was at that moment I knew I was at a crossroads. I could feel it. I could feel the decisions I made that day were going to paint the picture of my future, and I had better choose well.

I decided there was a piece I was missing ~ there had to be, I WAS working, I WAS doing something online every single day, but it just wasn’t coming together. At about that time I saw an ad on a website I read quite often offering personal one on on coaching. The person offering the coaching was very successful, and I liked his teaching style, very down to business and straight forward. Even though the coaching was VERY expensive I decided to go for it. There had to be a piece I was missing, and if I could just get that piece, then I could break through.

I took this coaching program, it happened to be about making adsense sites, and while I realized adsense sites are not really my cup of tea I did learn about KEYWORD RESEARCH. I made some money (not by any stretch what I expected, but some) and I gained confidence. No, it was more than conifidence. I gained FAITH, that this could really work.

That confidence and faith pushed me to develop my own product based on keyword research and it started to sell pretty well, then I found Andrea and we put together LearnItStepByStep.com to help people walk through all the little pieces of One Week Marketing. It is still an active website over 1 year later ~ which is pretty exciting.

After the content creation and the big launch for Learnit was over things settled down and I began to realize just how important focused daily action is. I started thinking about my success and realized it was when I had a specific goal I was working on that I had my most success. Creating the book, creating the membership site, working on this blog ~ all of those goals helped me move forward and find success.

Now I hadn’t really done that all on purpose and it got me thinking. “What would happen if I did this on purpose??”. It was a pretty exciting thing to think about, and I’ve decided to make it next year’s challenge.

It doesn’t matter what project or internet marketing strategy you’re using, it’s about being clear, concise, and focused. It starts with a big goal ~ a fairly medium to long term goal.  Just about everyone has goals, but what I ‘ve realized is those big goals alone just won’t cut it.

When we decided to start the membership site, neither Andrea or I had ever done anything like it. It was  a huge goal, and with a pretty short deadline. If we had looked at it closely it might have just overwhelmed us and we might have quit! (if it had been me alone, I’m pretty sure I would have lol). What we did was break up the overall goal into sections. Set up the membership software, set up this, set up that, write this piece, write that piece.  We gave each piece a bit of a time frame ~ ok this week I’m going to work on “this”.  Then we broke that down even further. What’s it going to take to get this piece done? Find out this, learn that, find someone who can help us do this etc, until that piece was done. Each piece built on the last, and finally ~ actually quite quickly we had it all put together.

I know for some of you building a membership site may seem completely out of reach, and that’s fine, you don’t need a membership site ~ you could choose to focus on building squidoo lenses, or wordpress niche sites, whatever it is, just decide.

Making a decision is huge in this business because there are just so many other things that can distract you. You try this method for a week ~ don’t really give it your all, see something else that claims it will make you money quick and easy, and you jump ship. You try that for a week, don’t give it your all, and then see the next shiny thing come through your email.

It’s a VICIOUS CYCLE and the only person this cycle serves is the person you keep paying money to for every new shiny thing you see. It does not benefit you at all. You are not getting involved deep enough, thoroughly enough in any given thing to give it time to actually work. Yes, this is where that faith I talked about earlier comes in. You have to on some level have faith that whatever internet marketing strategy you’ve chosen IS going to work, if you work it. You have to make that decision, and stick to it no matter what.

Here’s your mission ~ should you accept.

Decide: What is your goal? What do you want to accomplish in the next 6 months? Is it a monetary figure? Is it $100 a month? $1000? $5000 a month? Decide what you want.

Choose: Choose 1 internet marketing strategy you will work non stop, in a focused, diligent, and consistent manner for the next 6 months.

I don’t care what it is ~ but you have to pick something. Whether it’s building squidoo lenses, wordpress niche sites, 1 authority blog, a membership site, article marketing for affiliate products ~ I don’t care, but you have to choose 1.

Plan: Create a plan for yourself, break the strategy down into pieces that you’re going to have to accomplish. Smaller pieces that aren’t quite so overwhelming.

Take Focused Action: Everyday take action. Break your pieces from the plan phase into even smaller parts. Action steps, if you will, and every single day do something.

I personally like to write down what the action steps I’m working on for the day are on my calendar, which sits right in front of my keyboard so I can easily stay on track, focused on the specific steps I have to take today.

So what do you think? Are you game?

You know I’m not one to tell you to do something if I’m not willing to do it myself, so of course I’m playing! Here’s an outline of my plan:

Decide:  I decide to increase my income by $5000 a month by my birthday which is April 30th.  This will be a consistent and passive income stream.

Plan: I am going to build niche sites based on one niche, with many related and relevant keywords. I will build these sites consistently and in a focused manner, as many as I need over the next 6 months to reach my goal.

Take focused action:

1. keyword research.
2. Identify domain name.
3. Install wordpress on domain name
4. Add necessary plugins
5. Create content
6. build links
7. Rinse and repeat

This is the basic outline ~ and of course they can be this wide because I’ve done this before and those are good sized chunks for me, if you need things lined out even smaller, cool, go ahead and do that.

I will be blogging about the process, and about my journey with this challenge as time goes on, so if this sounds like an internet marketing strategy you might want to work on, I’ll be here to help.

Here are a few resources I recommend depending on the strategy you may choose. If you’ve chosen another strategy that I don’t mention and wonder what’s available on it, let me know and I can tell you if I know of one.

Mini niche wordpress sitesCommission Ritual ~ I just picked this up last week. It offers both ebooks and tons of videos to cement the learning. It is excellent.

Larger niche blogs: Niche blogger. I took this course last year, and it is excellent. Amy Bass does a fantastic job of helping beginners learn how to set up a niche blog and how to get traffic to the blog.  She uses a lot of text and video to help you understand how to do things. Very good step by step stuff on working with wordpress.

Squidoo marketing campaigns. One Week Marketing. If you want to stick with something that’s free, but works I totally recommend One Week Marketing by PotPieGirl. This is a great method to dominate a niche with squidoo.

If you already have OWM and you’re having trouble implementing I recommend you check out LearnItStepbyStep.com. It will walk you through each step of the process. I wrote the content, so if you like my teaching style, you’ll like Learnit. Just like here, we are very on top of questions, so if you have them we will answer them.

Short Reports: Small Reports Fortunes Learn how to write 7 to 15 page short reports on any topic. Sell them for a profit. This is one of Jimmy D Brown’s courses, it is quite good, and a very doable internet marketing strategy for just about anyone.

Authority Blogging: Blog Mastermind. If you want to build a big blog on one topic ~ like this one, but on any topic, it certainly doesn’t have to be on internet marketing, I recommend Yaro’s course Blog Mastermind. It is very good, his teaching style is easy to understand. He provides many extras including monthly Q and A calls that are live, and many audio recordings of interviews he’s done and information.

These are just a few of the internet marketing strategies available, but there are many more. Here’s a fun book that will show you 10 different ways you can make 10K a month online. It’s free. If you don’t really have an idea of what you’d like to do online, check it out, it’s pretty enlightening. Remember this is just to help you in the plan phase. Once you’ve chosen a strategy you’ll have to stick with it for the next 6 months ok?

So I showed you mine… now you show me yours! What are you going to do to make next year different than this year? Tell me your plan in the comments section ~ let’s do it together!

@Heather. I just read your post and it really spoke to me!! I too have been trying to make money online, with not as much success as i’d like, but I know it’s possible! My husband thinks I’m wasting my time, but I actually love doing it. For me, I can’t think of a better way to earn a living than by something I’m actually passionate about. PotPieGirl and Jackie have really inspired me and I’m really excited to see what I can do. I wish you all the best and hope that you reach or exceed your 6 month goal!

  2. Jackie says:

@Katherine. Great!! Make sure you are clear on how you are going to do that (there’s tons of ways to do niche blogging), and what all the steps are that you will need to do. :)

  3. Katherine says:

This is brilliant! I just set a goal to make $5000 from Niche Blogging. In addition to my writing tasks (for clients, etc) this is what I will be focusing on.

    Hi Jackie,
I was considering purchasing Commission Ritual but was wondering if it goes into detail about how to use WordPress? I’m not familiar with creating a WordPress site and if the videos go into detail that would be helpful for me. Is it really worth $97 in your opinion? Right now I’m doing Squidoo lenses with Blogger blogs, but would like to start doing some WordPress niche sites as well. Thanks…I appreciate your advice!

  5. Heather says:

    Hi Jackie,
I am definitely in!!! I want to be making $1000.00 a month in 6 months. I have been working online for at least 2 years now. Thought how hard could this be, people are making money all the time on here. Well what a shock to find out it wasn’t that easy, I spent the first year just really playing around with stuff making websites, images, etc. Wow I have learned a lot from then to now. You are right you can get so side tracked on all the things you try to read about, next thing you know you are signing up for this free report and that one, and then your email box has so much stuff to distract you. So this last year I have been wanting to really make some money, and here it is November and I am still only making less than $50.00 a month. I am doing everything using the bum method. I am a stay at home mom of 4 kids, and we don’t have any extra to buy any programs, or books, or anything like that. However I did scrap up enough to get the OWM. Of course from the bum method lead me to potpiegirl, which now has lead me to you!! And I know I can do this, I do need to be more focused on what to do next…I have quite a few websites, but I need to focus on content and linking with them. I have started doing the lenses and quite enjoy when I get one finished. Again have to work on my backlinks, and blogs, not good at that YET. My husband, and other family members think that I am totally wasting my time and I should be out getting a real job (kinda hurts to think that all the work I have done and they just think I am wasting my time). We I need to do this for me, not to say I told you so type of thing. I can feel it in my bones that this is going to work. And with posts and people like you and potpiegirl and travis, I know I can make this work!

    Hi Jackie
I have been mucking around the IM world for about a year with no financial results. The reason is fear, procrastination and hoping the next ebook will be the one..lol.
Today I will accept your challenge and focus on 1 area.
I know I could probably make more money with affiliate marketing but Jimmy Brown’s course on short reports seems to peak my interest. I love to write and just need to be sure I can keep it interesting.
My goal is to add $1500 per month to our income by April 2010. That will be the turning point to allow my husband to retire.
I do not yet have a list but am hoping to solve that problem soon.
I have also unsubscribed and deleted all emails that are distracting…wow there are a lot of “promising” deals out there.
NEWBIES…take Jackies advice and FOCUS…it will save you buckets of money in the long run..and you will be successful.

Wishing Prosperity to All Who are Brave Enough for this Challenge!

@Chad There are plenty of resources out there that will help you learn wordpress ~ just google whatever it is you want to know about wordpress and/or grab the recommended product ~ where you will not only get the information but be able to ask questions.

@Justin ~ I totally get that. So what are you going to do to move your income forward?

@Clemency ~ very cool. Just make sure in your head you know what you’re going to need to do. Again I recommend you check out Captain Squid’s blog.

@Laura ~ absolutely. People make millions just promoting affiliate products. It’s all about how you go about it. Choosing the right keywords, the right products and doing what needs to be done to get them ranked and getting traffic. That’s the part that sometimes gets left out and then people think it doesn’t work. Lens/site creation is only half the process ~ you’ve got to do the work to get them to rank too.

  8. Laura says:

    Hey Jackie,
I have been following your posts for a while now in addition to OWM. I am a teacher with four children of my own– so time is limited. I have been researching IM for appr. one year now and have one lens. I know that I need to MAKE MORE TIME to devote to IM – is that possible? I know that I need to get busy taking action– I just had in mind that I needed to learn everything first (haha!! I know better now) My question is: I bring home $2000/mo. now and need to make this amount before I can quit my teaching job. Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching, but feel that it is important to be home during the teenage years. So, is it possible to make this amount/mo. just promoting affiliate products? I don’t have an idea and cannot begin to think about putting together my own product at this time. My goal is to be making enough to stay at home full-time in 2 years.

  9. Clemency says:

    Hi Jackie
This is just the kick up the backside I need! My goal is that by July 2009 I will be making at least $1000 a month from my squidoo lenses. There, I’ve written it down so now I’ve got to do it!
    Many thanks for the inspiration.

  10. I’m having some problem with my earnings online. Though it can support all our everyday needs, I’m not yet satisfied on what I’m earning for now. Of course, I would like to earn more to support my ambitions/dreams/goals in life.

You know what your right, we don’t need to buy all your products offer. It’s just a matter of checking out what you think really effective for you in whatever niche you’re doing.

  11. Jason Tipp says:

I’m surely hoping to do a lot of changes! E.g. I need to finish my city model (made from cardboard) that I’m currently working on. And I will try again to change my look. Still I’m wearing a suit almost all the time. It is time to try something else.

  12. Chad says:

    Jackie,
I love this! I think that this is the kind of thing that people need and are able to feed off of each other!

My goal is to hit $1000 a month in 6 months time, that is what I need in order to not have to go back and get a J-O-B and keep Alexis at home :) The funny part is that is exactly how much time I have left before I have no choice but go and get a J-O-B so I am really excited to be a part of this.

I am planning on getting in on the WordPress mini niche sites even thought I don’t know the first thing about WordPress but I am ready to learn!

Getting excited and looking forward to continually taking action with you.

    Chad

  13. Jackie says:

@Betty Sounds like a plan but remember the linking part of the plan. That’s the most important part of getting search engine traction!!

  14. Betty says:

Hi Jackie,Count me in. My goal will be $1000 per month by March.
As a newbie I will do affiliate marketing and the Christmas cash lens,
doing 5 lens per week (large ticket items). Thank you for all the great info you have made available to us. Look forward to working with you for the next 6 months.
    Betty

  15. Jackie says:

No, I don’t think it matters, I think it looks great! Way to use your own style and imagination!!

  16. Awesome thank you!! I was able to use it in this lens and then have each picture link back to the product page! I think thats a great way to use the poll module! Do you think it matters if I don’t have the name of each separate product beside the pitcure? I tried to put it in but then because each picture is a different size all the text was a little uneven and it didn’t seem to flow very well. Thanks again!

    Dennis

  17. Jackie says:

@Lynn, ebay now pays per click you send to their website instead of a commission from auctions people win after they’ve gone through your link. yes, it changed how I was thinking about doing things. You can do the exact same thing still, I just switched out my affiliate program and used something else besides ebay.

@Rachel ~ interesting. I had wordpress goldmine from way back when it was only an ebook ~ I’ll have to look into that.

@Cathy ~ congrats on your two sites. That’s awesome!! It’s really nice to get a little bit of success, it makes it much easier to hold on to the faith that it’s going to work. Just imagine what you can do with a bunch more sites!!

    @Dennis http://internetmarketingformommies.com/how-to-get-much-faster-at-building-lenses/

@Kirsten be careful making really specific monetary plans like that ~ you may find you build 2 sites a month and 1 makes nothing and 1 makes 50 bucks, then the next month you may find they both take off, the next neither one take off. Just know sometimes it will NOT work as planned ~ gauranteed :)

RE: MNF ~ you can do everything you need with MNF. I’d stick with what you’ve learned about creating niche sites on WG but use the criterion set up here for keywords. I don’t know what they teach in WG (I’ll have to get my copy out and read it, although I don’t know if it’s still the same) about linking, but the linking strategy laid out here should work just as well with wp sites as long as you are choosing low comp keywords. So I’d say, save your money right now, try choosing kw based on the info here, and do the linking laid out here and see how it goes. If it doesn’t work then try CR.

@Val ~ cool beans. You’d be surprised how much you can make focusing on physical products, especially if you do your keyword research well and choose a decent price point. :)

@everyone else ~ I’m so excited about all of you getting ready to make a change! It’s really a thrill for me to see! I can’t wait to see your progress and help you celebrate your successes!!

  18. Val says:

Hi Jackie. I am definitely on board. Took me awhile to complete my first lens, but I think the next one will go faster.

My goal is to make $1,000 per month within the next six months. I believe that following along with you as you work toward your goal will make me more accountable to myself.

My plan of action is to build Squidoo lens using article marketing and blogs as backlinks. I plan to concentrate on physical products instead of info products. I know I’ll probably make less money at first, but skeptic that I am (also a voracious reader), I would tend to want to read info products before I sold them and I can’t afford that at this time.

Once again, thanks for all of the free advice and info. You make me believe I can succeed at this.

  19. Kirsten says:

    HI Jackie
I am about 7 months into IM. Have finally settled with building microniche sites. Used OWM to get the idea and now WP goldmine to learn how to use WP. Its working but not seeing any money because I have not chosen low competition KWs.
I have been thinking about getting Commission Ritual but didnt want to be distracted by yet another program. If i am building micro niche sites and need to get them onto page 1 is this going to help me do it. At this stage I have MNF, and Traffic Bug and I build backlinks through article marketing mostly. Will Commission Ritual be my catalyst. I need to be making at least 1600 dollars a month from IM in 6 months time. That breaks down to $53 per day. So I would like to see an increase to get to that amount monthly. That would mean
    December $270/month
That means 2 sites each making 135 dollars each.
    January $535/month
    Feb $810/month
    etc etc

As i said I plan to do this by micro niche sites so do you think commission ritual is going to help me achieve this. Right now i am struggling to get the sites onto page one and converting. I dont know how to make adsence sites yet and only plan to once i have got affiliate marketing mastered.

Just need some insight into this.

    THanks

  20. Where was the conversation that mentioned how to show the pictures of the different color mixers in the poll module? Someone had done it on a product lens about KitchenAid mixers or something like that. I’m working on a lens and that method would be perfect for my poll answers but I can’t seem to find the conversation! Can anyone point me to it or tell me how to do that correctly?

    Dennis

  21. Cathy says:

I got to chime in on Commission Ritual. I only had time to build 2 small Halloween niche sites but between the 2, they made over $400 in Sept & Oct. I know it’s not much, but it was enough for me to see that this Internet Marketing stuff can work, if you follow a system & have a plan.

My goal is to make 1-2 niche sites a week, following the Commission Ritual formula, to bring my income to a consistent 5k a month!

  22. Rachael says:

Hi Jackie, I look forward to reading your blogging throughout the coming months and reading how everyone is doing with this endeavor. My first plan is to get a plan of action written down and following it. I waste so much time figuring out where I am and what I should do next. I think I finally weeded out everyone and will read and listen to the ‘good’ people in this business. You have helped me and many others and I thank you for that. I also trust Jennifer with One Week Marketing. My plan is to use my squidoo lenses with OWM and other sites to promote wordpress niche sites. With that I would like to recommend WordPress Goldmine to everyone. There is a monthly fee, but the information is excellent. Mark Thompson is another good guy and he tells you exactly what to do step by step. I can’t say enough about the wonderful people in that forum that care and help others. If you like wordpress, that is the place to be.

  23. Lynn says:

    Hi Jackie-

In reference to CR (which I just got a week or two ago), what did you mean about eBay changing the way they pay affiliates? Does that change the strategy you might choose within CR?

Thanks for the way you share your knowledge.

  24. Dawn says:

    Am I in?

You bet your bootie I am!

I’d swear that sometimes you almost read my mind. This ‘creating a plan’ and sticking to it is exactly what I need. I have given up on buying most of the bright new shiny toys I see and I am making money – but not enough!

So – my goal is to be making US$4000 a month in 7 months time (7 months because that’s my birthday). I live in New Zealand and being paid in US dollars does convert well but because the exchange rate is all over the place I think I’m better to make my financial goals in US dollars. Currently I make around US$1000 a month so I need to quadruple that.

I believe it is achievable but will be a bit of a stretch – but isn’t that what goals should be. I haven’t fine tuned the plan yet, still writing down ideas as they pop into my mind, but it will be along the lines of keeping growing my main sites and also providing them with more “back-up” in the form of Squidoo lens and blogs etc.

I have some pages on my main site at number 1 with the Google search engine and others on page 274! Now think what a difference it would make to those out-lying pages if I could just make Google take them a little more seriously. I also think that joining a couple of top-notch directories would help – you know – the ones you have to pay just to have them review you (I’m not talking paid links here, folks, I mean BOTW and Yahoo.)

There seem to be so many things to be done that I get focused on something and go like mad at that but completely forget about other things. So – thanks to your post, Jackie – I’m making myself a plan with all the little steps to do so that important things don’t get overlooked.

For me, your post today is one of the best you’ve done. This sort of planning is vital for anyone who aspires to be an online marketer.

  25. Kelly says:

I’ve tried posting 3 times, and none of my posts have registered. :( Hopefully, 4th times a charm.

@Bryan – Obviously no one is suggesting that you buy ALL those materials. What Jackie is saying is to pick ONE of those methods, and if you need help, X is a good product to help you get going.

    Jackie, I’m in.

I’m going to purchase OWM (which I had already decided on about a month ago – just waiting for this month’s income to hit the bank) and work that for the next 6 months. I was worried about my lenses – last week I seemed to be taking a dive in Google rank and lens rank, and my page views were dropping like a stone. But I worked on backlinking all weekend, and I’m already seeing an increase in page views today.

Anyway – that’s my plan, my goal is to hit $1000 a month by my birthday in June.

Thank you so much for being such an inspiration. Every email/blog post from you is like having a friend at my side telling me not to give up.

    Kelly

  26. Jade says:

Hi Jackie, Count me in too. As Susan Jeffers says “Feel the fear and do it anyway”! Had a little success end of last year with IPK. Have been using OWM and had some good results re Google ranking with some lenses – others seem to disappear.

When they disappear I seem to get down on myself and drop the ball so to speak. Your Squidoo tutorial posts have been invaluable, thank you for sharing them with us. Would like to make at least $1000+ per month in 6 months time and need to get going on a plan of action and stick to it.

By the way I live in Australia so how cool is the internet that you are connecting with people all over the world!

  27. Beatrice says:

Thanks for being so supportive. I scared myself when I typed it. The 4D-MMB is the 4 Day Money-Making Blueprint by David Bocock. I’m a real newbie, and the OWM, which is wonderful, had a few gaps for me. PotPieGirl herself, in an email, recommended the 4D-MMB, and he seemed sincere like she is. Like you people are, but I didn’t know about you yet. I’m really working hard on this, and I really appreciate the quality of the info you send out.

I kind of wish I’d known about you earlier, but I’m taking all the action I can, even though sometimes I feel like I’m on overload.

In short, I’m going to do everything (legal, of course) that I can to totally transform my life…even the scariest part…and that is, Taking Action (yes, I’ve already started).

  28. Jackie says:

    @Jim,

    That’s fantastic! Congrats

  29. Arlene says:

Hi Jackie, I’m in. I have been doing Squidoo Lens, and am busy going back through all the Lens I have created, 49, and implement what you recommend in your review of my two Lens. My click thru rate has increased dramatically!!!
    Thanks
    Jim

  30. Jackie says:

    @Julie
Congrats!! Big step saying that all out loud right?? Don’t get paralyzed by the fear. You can do it. Print out the 1 week marketing action plan pdf that came with OWM. Don’t worry about day 1, day 2. Just think of it as step 1 step 2, then do each step of each step one at a time, and you’ll do great!!!!

  31. Jackie says:

@Bryan I certainly don’t expect you to purchase all or any of the products I’ve recommended. However ~ if you have chosen what you want to focus on you certainly could speed up your learning curve by getting a quality product that will teach you how to do it. I have simply pointed you toward some products I have used in the past that I know are quality information.

I’ve purchased all of them ~ I’ve used all of them. I certainly don’t recommend that you do ~ but make a decision about which strategy you want to employ and then think about if you know exactly how to do it. If you don’t grab something that will help you.

I certainly can’t do free step by step tutorials on every single one of these methods. :)

    @Dennis ~ thanks! I sure hope that’s the case! I can’t wait to hear the stories. :)

  32. Julie says:

    Ok – I’m in.

I’m scared…I’ve never done this and I’m afraid that $1000 may not be doable in 6 months.

Decide: I decide to increase my income by $1000 a month by June 1st.

Plan: I am going to make Squidoo lenses using the One Week Marketing Plan.

Take focused action: Again…getting paralyzed here with overwhelming fear. I’ll have to work this out.

I enjoy reading everyones comments and how inspired people get when they read this blog… Hopefully we will keep this commitment not only to Jackie, but to ourselves, and each other. I know I intend to stick around here and be an active part of the conversation, and I hope everyone else will… How awesome would it be in 6 months for everyone to start posting that they have reached their goal and will reach even higher!! Good luck everyone!

You try this method for a week ~ don’t really give it your all, see something else that claims it will make you money quick and easy, and you jump ship. You try that for a week, don’t give it your all, and then see the next shiny thing come through your email.

Jackie, you’ve done exactly in this post what you warn us to stay away from. Only difference is….you put it all on one post. If I was to purchase all your recommended products on this post, I’d be broke.

What ever happened to really wanting to help people make money online without driving them into the poor house?

    Here’s my goal for 2010.
To take myself off your mailing list.

  35. Jackie says:

Enjoy your travels ~ write down everything you come across to give you ideas for niches. I bet you’ll see a million possible niches!! We’ll see you when you get back!!

  36. I am in but for now i have to travel to Africa and will be able to do any thing online only after i am back and that will only be posible in Januarry

  37. Jackie says:

@Beatrice ~ fantastic! That’s an exciting goal. Does that mean you are going to do nothing but OWM for the next 12 months? Not sure what 4D MMB is ~ but make sure you know exactly what and how much you’re going to need to do to reach your goal. :) Congrats on deciding, now keep taking action!

  38. Beatrice says:

Okay. I’ll keep using OWM and 4D-MMB and withing 12 months, I’ll be earning $10,000.00 per month. (hmmm…that’s scary).

Btw, I just thought I’d mention that your LearnItStepByStep.com link doesn’t seem to be working.

  39. Jackie says:

@Aiden ~ please do stop by and let us know when you decide! I am going to monetize with physical affiliate products ~ and adsense as well. The first site I’m working on actually has a pretty high cpc ~ which was a pleasant surprise, and the aff commissions are pretty high as well. I’m looking forward to getting it up and running!

  40. Hi Jackie,

You can count me in, and thank you for putting together this plan and challenge. I can certainly relate to your experience as I’m still going through something very similar at this time. I’ve tried many different things, joined coaching programs, and made a little money here and there but still far from where I want to be.

You really described what I believe is my greatest challenge here:

Making a decision is huge in this business because there are just so many other things that can distract you. You try this method for a week ~ don’t really give it your all, see something else that claims it will make you money quick and easy, and you jump ship. You try that for a week, don’t give it your all, and then see the next shiny thing come through your email.

So from now on I will just focus on 1 strategy. I plan to make $1500 a month in the next 6 months. However, at this point I haven’t really decided on a specific strategy. May I ask how you’re going to monetize your niche sites? Selling physical products, info products, or Adsense? Or perhaps a combination of those?

Adsense has been the one thing that has made me money consistently every month. I was thinking of focussing on that but I will probably need to build a lot of Adsense sites to make $1500 a month. So maybe if I can promote affiliate products along with Adsense, that will help?

I will probably post an update once I decide :)

    Hi Jackie!

You’re so inspirational!! I’m also in!! I currently work full time in the corporate world and actually for my family’s business. My husband and I are talking about having a baby one day soon and, just like you, I want to be able to stay at home. I’ve been experimenting with internet marketing for about a year and a half and I do make a bit of extra income. However, I just discovered Squidoo about 2 months ago and already have almost 30 lenses built. My goal is to continue building lenses, using your Christmas modules, but try amd optimize the ones I have now. Today, I’m working on creating more backlinks ;) Since I’m new with Squidoo, I’d be VERY happy to be making at least $100 per month by April 2010. If I could achieve that, I would know there’s room to keep going. I’m really excited to be committed to this goal!!!

  42. Jackie says:

@Dennis ~ sorry to hear about your baseball career, and good luck with your lenses. You might check out Capt Squid’s blog. He’s currently working on a $2000 a month from Squidoo goal. He doesn’t do things exactly as I do, but it’s good solid information and he’s been very successful at Squidoo for quite a while. Congrats on taking action.

@Casium Congrats on taking action ~ I would hold off on Wealthy Affiliate for right now ~ it can be very distracting. Lots of GREAT information, but if you’re trying to stick to one thing it can make it kind of difficult.

@Ingrid ~ awesome!! Keep taking action.

@Bernita ~ girl you know I love you. I think once you get clear on what you want to focus on, it’s going to be important to get clarity on exactly what you need to be working on when you have time set aside to work. You can do it!!

@Tammy thanks for the kind words about my site. I’m really glad you’ve found it helpful!! When building niche sites just make sure you do your keyword research so you know people are looking for what you’re doing. Also I’m working on creating niche sites based on products so it’s really easy to create relevant content and get people to buy.

@Brenda ~ IPK is a terrific program, and a great thing to work on this time of year. Adsense sites can really pay off if you make sure you’re thorough with your keyword research.

@Dusty ~ there are many many ways to go about making money online. Niche sites are one great way to do it, but certainly not the only way. I too really like commission ritual. Just be aware that ebay has changed how they pay out for their affiliate program.

@Ken D ~ Congrats on taking action and staying focused! It really is the key, and sometimes so tough to do. Congrats on getting rid of the stuff that gets in the way of focus!! That helps a lot. Look forward to working on this goal with you!!

  43. Ken D says:

I too got the commission ritual a few weeks ago and I think after running in circles for the last few years, I finally found what I like. So I got off many email lists, canceled a few member sites, and became focused on my goal. Seems it is very close to yours, Jackie. You were the one who prompted me to take action with the Christmas squidoo stuff so this is one of the few places I’m keeping in my arsenal.
Focusing seems to be key along with action….

  44. Dusty says:

Niche sites are definitely the way to go since some sites will make money while other will fail miserably. Using the Pareto Principle, 80% of your income will be earned by 20% of your sites.

What this tells me is that I should get as many sites up and running as possible to give myself a better chance at success. It is much easier to create 10 sites that make $1 per day than it is to create 1 site that make $10 per day.

    Just my 2 cents!

I am going to join your challenge as well. My goal is to create 104 sites (2 per week) based upon Brian’s Johnson’s Commission Ritual. That resource is the best I have found anywhere.

  45. Brenda says:

    OK Jackie,

You put out a challenge and I like challenges. My only hope is that I (know!)can stick with this through the six months. I know there’s money to be made with affiliate marketing but I also have a wish (want) to be like Joel Comm with the Adsense sites.

I have some Adsense sites out there making me a whopping $30-$40/month. My goal for the next six months is to raise that to $2000/month. That’s a hefty goal but I should be able to (will!) put together 4-5 sites/week and do article marketing to drive the backlinks.

My only distraction at this time is that I’m working the Christmas IPK program. I got the mother site up and 2 satellite ones. I need to finish this project before I dive in 100% with the Adsense business.

Now I’m feeling long winded. Thanks Jackie for giving me this challenge to do what I know I can achieve!

    Hi Jackie,

I’m with ya. I’m going to set my goal to make a steady $1000 a month by the six month mark. I am fond of the wordpress so I am going to do my niches that way. I will keep building these sites until I reach my $1000 a month then I will reset my goal and keep going forward!

I am a member at learnit and I love the way things are laid out so clearly with videos and you can ask questions. I highly reccommend this site and find myself referring back to the lessons when I have forgotten how to do certain steps. I have learnt alot there. Thanks Jackie!

    Hi Jackie,

I’m in! I’m just torn between doing niche sites or Amy’s longer version. I find I like to see results quicker and that’s were the niche site appeals to me. I’ll give it some more thought.

    I’m looking forward to this.

  48. Ingrid says:

My goal next year is to be making at least 1,500 per month by march next yeat. I now it is possible and I know what I need to do to achieve this. With your help and the help of God Iknow it is possible.

I am all games for this challenge.

    Thanks Jackie

    Ingrid

  49. Casium says:

Good morning, Jackie. Yes, I will agree to commit 6 months to a FOCUSED plan to create an extra income stream from internet marketing. As a newbie, I will commit to a modest goal, let’s say 500 a month, consistent and passive income stream. I think affiliate marketing is the path I will choose, just coming out of the starting gate as I am. I will begin by adopting your Christmas lens model, just to get my feet wet, with your recommended process for doing that. I will focus on larger ticket items that will continue to have appeal after Christmas with a goal towards continuing to monetize them past Christmas. I will create 5 lenses this week and spend at least 2 days creating good quality backlinks to them through the various methods you suggest. I cannot afford to purchase some of the programs I KNOW I need, such as OWM and your own LearnIt product, but I will commit to reinvest money back into this endeavor that will allow me to. (I also intend to join Wealthy Affiliate.) Next week, rinse and repeat. As a side note, thegodblog.net is an impulse purchase. I probably ought not to have done it, timing-wise, but what can I say. I do not necessarily intend to monetize it. It was something I wanted to own and I consider it a “diamond for the soul”, a gift to me. :-) It isn’t viable yet, I just got it on Saturday, but I’m thinking about a clearinghouse website where anyone and everyone can discuss their personal views of god (the afterlife, heaven, whatever) or lack thereof in a rational, non-judgemental environment. Just for fun!! I realize I’ve gone off a little bit in this comment, but since this is an introductory post from me to you, I would like to thank you for the HUGE amount of good quality information you have made available to me and your other readers, and I look forward to becoming a success story you can point to!! Have a beautiful day.

Count me in! I am recently out of professional baseball due to a career ending surgery… To say the least “life after baseball” has been kicking my butt. My wife and I just had our 1 year anniversary and I promised her that this next year will be different (exciting hopefully). It really won’t take much for me to support a work at home career.

My goal is to be earning $1000 per month by the end of march. I have been working hard on squidoo as my primary focus. Thanks again for all your help, this is the only resource that I feel is truly honest, clear and to the point.
