Are you too busy to take action?

Are you too busy to take action ~ what a crazy question.

It’s a valid question and one I asked myself yesterday and when I got really honest with myself I came to some startling realizations. It would appear recently I have been too busy to take action.

Let’s talk about the difference between taking action and being busy. Here it is folks, in a nutshell.

Is what you are doing making you money? Well, is it? If it’s not you are probably just busy.

What do I mean by that? Here are some examples.

  • are you doing keyword research all day ~ or ~ are you writing those good keywords in quality content that will get you paid?
  • are you reading yet another 27 dollar ebook ~ or are you implementing the strategies from the last one (dare I say 2 or 3?)
  • Are you checking email 30 times a day ~ or building something that will send you “you’ve been paid” messages?

The difference is being busy is just like in elementary school when the teacher gave you “busy work”, something that keeps your fingers and maybe your mind busy ~ but does not really accomplish or further your learning and in our case your paypal account.

So how do you move from busy to action?

It is a seemingly easy question, but can be a little more difficult when you get down to it. I think it begins with laser targeted vision ~ where are you going, what do you want to accomplish.

This is where it gets a little complicated, because there are so many different directions you can go in to make money online. As I have mentioned many times before, I truly believe if you are trying to move in many directions you will actually go nowhere. I am not immune to this ~ only this week I got involved in 3 new things that completely misdirected my efforts. But because I had a clear vision of where I was going and how I was able to see these new things were not taking me in the right direction and let them go.

So here’s what I suggest.

Decide where you want to go or accomplish (set a goal).

For the remainder of this month my goals are as follows (so you can get an idea of what kind of goals you might set for yourself ~ and help me stay on track lol)

  • Finish the free Squidoo Course for my mailing list (done)
  • Finish the 30 day challenge ~ and implement the strategies within
  • Build a new page to let my readers know I build custom lenses
  • Complete and update all the squidoo lenses currently in my dashboard

These are very specific things to focus on and accomplish before the end of the month. They will help me stay focused and on track. They will also provide me with plenty of action steps instead of just doing things that keep me busy and make me look like I’m working.

Having these focused goals also allows me to ask myself a clarity question, to make sure I am taking action and not just staying busy.

“Is this moving me toward my monthly goals?”

In fact, I’ve printed that question and taped it to my monitor as a constant reminder to stay on task and take action!!

Only when you take actions that move you toward your monthly, daily or weekly goals will you see those “you’ve made a sale” emails when you do take a minute to check your email (once or twice a day) :)

This is an excellent way to formulate your own personal internet marketing strategy. Since we are all working on different marketing endeavors and moving toward different end goals I can’t just give you a plan. My plan may not work for you, but I can give you the skeleton, and the information.

Today it’s up to you to set up your ACTION plan, and start taking action.

I’d love to hear how this is working for you, let me know in the comments!

  1. What an excellent post!

I absolutely needed to read it. Checking my email dozens of times in a day…I tend to forget that so many of my actions are very unproductive!

    Thanks!

It happened exactly to me, I am always busy and no time to make action. So many directions!!!
