Being Consistent is Key

I know I’ve said it before, but I’m gonna say it again. You have to take consistent action. Consistent DAILY action is even better.

How do you know where to focus?

This is where it gets a little confusing right? There’s so many pieces to the puzzle. There’s so many different things to do, how do you know what actions you need to take, when to take them and how much to do?

Let’s break it down.

There’s pretty much 2 pieces to the internet marketing puzzle right…

Content creation

Promotion

Where are you at? Do you have tons of posts or lenses done, but you’re not getting any traffic because you haven’t promoted them at all? Then I’d suggest you start taking consistent action on the promotion piece.

Are you still reading blog posts after blog post, and pdf after pdf trying to figure out how to get started? Then you probably need to start taking some consistent action in content creation.

When you make it really simple it gets much clearer to see where you need to put your focus and your consistent action.

How do you choose what to do?

This can be confusing as well… there are so many different techniques, rules, opinions, internet marketing strategies out there, how do you ever decide and start taking action?

You just do. One day you just make a decision, and you stick to it. One day you say to yourself. I’m going to work on Squidoo, or I’m going to build a niche blog, or I’m going to build an authority blog. You then put your blinders on to information that doesn’t help you accomplish that goal ~ and that includes not spending time at the warrior forum, and you just start doing it.

Let’s look at some consistent actions you can take depending on what you’ve chosen to do:

Squidoo:

Build 10 lenses this week.  ~ Just focus on building the lenses… next week you can take consistent action to do the linking.

If you’ve got lenses up that aren’t doing well, then make your goal to consistently build 10 links to them each day. Set a clear goal so you know when  you’ve reached it. If you say… “oh I’m gonna build links this week”. Then how do you know if you’ve done it? If you create 1 link? A hundred? It’s much easier to stay consistent when you know exactly what you need to do.

I’m going to build 10 links to these 3 lenses every day this week. ~ BAM! When those 30 links are done you’re done. You know it, and you also know when you’ve not kept your word to yourself ~ and that’s when you finish a day and don’t have those 30 links done.

It may come down to 9pm, and Castle’s coming on, and you realize you only have 20 links done. Guess what ~ you either need to keep Castle on in the background or you need to TIVO it, or if you live in a completely non electronic gadget house like me… you miss it that week. I love Castle, but I love being able to take care of my family more. If it means I have to miss Castle, then I have to miss Castle.

Those are the actions for squidoo ~ build lenses, or build links.

Notice…. I didn’t mention anywhere creating lists of products or keywords. Unless you’re planning on selling those lists to someone else, lists of keywords and products don’t make you money. Build lenses or build links.

Niche blog actions:

If you’re building a niche blog I hate to tell you but the action steps are pretty much the same.

Publish posts to your blog, or promote those posts. Again, we’re building content or building links.  You can batch process those activities where you write a ton of posts ~ and then date them to post one a day. Then when that’s done you can go back and build links for each post. It’s sometimes easier to do this because it allows you to get into the flow, of either writing or link building.

Authority blogging actions:

Again… the actions are pretty much the same.

Write posts. Promote posts.

It can be a little more complicated because social networking comes in here as a form of promotion, but if you set clear goals for what you want to accomplish ie. get 10 tweets set up to publish throughout the day, you can also manage social media without getting sucked in.

post/promote.

Where are you?

Where are you in this puzzle? Where do you need to put your consistent action to get your sites to start making money and doing what you want them to do?

June Challenge

That’s the challenge for this month. Taking consistent action. Whether you decide to make a goal for the month, or set up a consistent action plan for each week of the month, figure out something to start taking consistent action.

I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve to help you with this one throughout the month so keep an eye out. I’d also love to hear what you’re going to do for your consistent actions… let’s use the comments section to put ourselves out there, to be accountable.

We can also set up a discussion on the Fanpage to help each other out as the month goes on.

It’s a new month, new chance to start fresh.

Decide. Take action.

Awesome Jackie.

I read multiple blogs daily, and it is always a cool feeling when I read two articles from two totally different bloggers, but they seem to coincide nicely. I read one about an hour ago , that states similar actions, but he says to have the principles down before you start.

If I may leave the link: http://www.blogussion.com/marketing/blogging-marke...

My latest posts show that I am going to be in this exact spot very soon. The gist is "multiple blogs", when do I create vs. when do I promote...although I haven't written the solution yet, I think I may have a good one; wish me luck! lol

For me, Jackie, I very timely post. Having just received your reviews of 2 of Lenses from late last year I see that I'm very much lacking in both K/W research and linking. My challenge for the coming week is to spend as much time as possible on improving my K/Ws and getting 10 links per day for each of the 2 Lenses. And importantly, getting a much better understanding of linking and back linking. Thanks for the prompting!

I'm off to a 3 day Internet Marketing Course in Australia. It is Brendan Nichols Ultimate Internet Entrepreneurs Event. My committment is to put it into practice by spending at least 10 hours a week - every week - doing 'productive' actions. I do love the way,Jackie, that you focus on specifics.
Talk to you soon!
Janice from New Zealand

Have fun Janice! Make sure you know specifically how much, when and what those "productive" actions are. Just asking yourself to take "productive action" is probably not going to be clear enough to get it done. :)

Hi Jackie,

Thank you for the inspiration.

For starters I am trying to get in the loop with you on this one -- more on this in a moment.

I have just done a site redesign. Developing my aweber account to include auto feeds for newsletter readers. Building up my newsletter sign ups. Have wrangled a cast of interviewees for an ebook I am working on. Lots of writing and a few posts. Things are good.

The part where I feel stuck is what you call in this post "do the linking" or "building links." I am happy to do it. But as a newbee to your site, what does this mean? How hoe do you do this?

sorry if this was covered a million years ago.

Thanks,
devin

Hi Devin ~ sounds like you're on the right track for sure. Depending on the type of blog/site you are working on it will depend on what you need to do to build links.

If you're working on an authority site your links will probably come more from interacting with your niche ~ blog comments, forums, twitter, facebook. From that interaction other people begin to link to you and your content (which is even more links).

If you're working on small niche sites, or squidoo lenses you have to build the links yourself using free ad blogs, or high PR links, etc.

You can find a great list of the ways to build links on the articles page or in the backlinking and get more web traffic categories on this blog. :)

Thanks Jackie,

It all seems so overwhelming at time, but I will keep trying. :)

Yeah, I get that. Just pick one or two things to work on. You don't have to do them all ~ I like to give lots of choices because not everyone enjoys doing the same thing. So look through the options, and pick a couple, then consistently put them into action.

First challenge is to break down all of my projects into simple tasks. I'm working on setting up an opt in list right now. I have the landing page done, but now I need to get the thank you and download pages done. That alone is 10 steps.

Then I am so far behind in link building it's crazy, so if I can build 5 links a day to three web properties, I'll be way ahead of where I'm at now.

Now, I'm off to work up my to do list for tomorrow. If I don't do this, I'll be frozen in the AM and I will get absolutely nothing done before heading off to work.

Work it everyone. I'm looking forward to hearing good progress and reporting my own progress.

Don't forget you can keep it simple to start ~ you can skip the ty and download pages and just put a link to your download in the first page. That way you can get started and keep working on the pieces as you go.

Good point Jackie,

I am horrible when it comes to this. I make things so complicated that I give up which is even worse.

Thanks,
B

Well when there are so many voices yelling if you don't have every piece of every puzzle you'll never succeed ~ it's pretty easy to get caught up in it. :) But you can simplify, start with one thing, and then at least you're moving, then add pieces as you can. :) You can do it.

Challenge... submit at least one post every day (probably just 1 - maybe 2 a few times) and publish at the minimum 50 videos to youtube.

Finish my free report, start newsletter, edit paid product, create reviews for a minimum of 5 products that will give me a decent commission on, set up amazon store, and continue to participate in communites such as ning networks, forums, and commenting on blogs and more.

This seems like a lot but I truly enjoy every second of it! Starting today I will be planning out my days to work 5 hours. This gives me a lot of free time. Free time that will be spent enjoying life while also "working" if I so desire. Setting it a 5 hours allows me to focus throughout the day as I work in 15-30 minute time slots and take frequent breaks.

May was the best month of my life but June will be a billion times better? How do I know? Because I want it to be!

Thanks Jackie. I am extremely grateful for your support. It brings me to tears when you keep encouraging this way.
I've also been thinking of the front pack lately. Will look into getting one when I can, hopefully soon...

That sounds like a great plan. I will pray for you. :) When Hanna was that age she was super fussy. I put her in a front pack and was able to sit and work with her in it. It was the only way she would stay calm was to be right with me. Good luck!

Thanks Jackie, Just what I need today.
1) I will make 1 lens everyday.
2) Submit RSS to RSS directories - 2 every day (for a lens)
3) Add an article to freeads
4) Post news item about lens

Next week:
1) Bookmark lens + news item in 5 sites
2) Add article to Ezine directory with link pointing to lens

Repeat

With a new baby, I hope I get the time. He is 3 months old now. Please pray for me.

I'm taking action building sites and articles etc.

I'm definitely in on this. Thanks for reminding me to set actual goals, I have a tendency to be too generic, and say "I've got to do backlinks this week".

My problem right now is that I need money NOW - so I've taken on a lot of freelance work for other people, and it's not leaving me a lot of time to deal with my stuff. I've seen my traffic suffer for it. :(

But I think if I can keep myself away from Twitter, Facebook and a couple other time suckers, I'll be ok!@My

Hi Jackie,
You're absolutely right, focus and consistent action pays off, but I haven't always done it!
I started the cash blueprint last week, wrestling with 6 tabs in firefox, all good stuff though.
So before I even got you're email I'd decided to do 2 lenses every day for a month. ( maybe weekends off).
Now I see it may have been a bit ambitious with the linking and every thing but I'm sticking with it.
I'll let you know how it goes.

With my limited time, my goal is 10 lenses per week and then do the promotion the next week for those 10. I am looking forward to all of your posts in the next few weeks!!
