Here it is almost a new year, and I’m sure you have big plans for your blog and your business. As we discussed last week having a strategic business plan going into the new year is always key. This week we’re going to take that plan and put it into practice! Because action is where your profits come from.

If you’re creating an authority type site, whether it’s about a niche in general or even product reviews, your content is the foundation of your site. If you’re not creating new content, you’re not going to succeed. Content is KEY!!

What are you going to write about? What if you get writer’s block? What if you run out of ideas? What if you’re just too scared to write anything, and the longer you look at that “hello world” post sitting on your site the harder and harder it gets to even start.

PHEW.

I have a solution.

The first step is this:

Decide content is a non negotiable element of your business.

I can’t even tell you what an important step this is… it will be the difference between success and failure when it comes to your content production this year.

The second step is this:

Decide when you’ll be posting your content to your site.

Once you’ve made those two decisions you can start creating your calendar. Here’s the technique I use to keep myself, and my content creation on track.

1. Set up month long topics/series.

In my handy dandy notebook (if anyone can tell me the reference…), I’ve lined out each month for the next year. I’ve decided on a topic for the month. Now on this site I only post once a week, so I now have to come up with 4 topics related to my monthly series topic and then my content is planned for the month.

I hate to be completely tied into something specific, so I’ll leave the topic rather general, so I can frame it in a way that feels good when I sit down to write.

Here’s an example:

January is going to be social media month here on IMM.

So my four posts might look something like this:

facebook tricks to share content

what not to do on facebook

how to create a community using facebook

how to drive more traffic back to your site with facebook

You see how easy that is?! Now I have a topic, and I can write about it in a way that resonates with me next month or even if this was scheduled 9 months from now, I’m sure I’d have opinions and ideas on those 4 topics.

The other cool thing about this is, I didn’t have any twitter topics, or linkedin topics, or youtube topics, so that just gave me a TON more ideas on topics I could use.

NOTE: If you’re building links and writing articles to use off site, you can take all those extra ideas and turn them into articles.

The key to this working is being organized, and sticking to the plan. Here’s some of the tools I use to stay organized.

1. Day Planner:

I have a day planner on my desk where I write down what blog I’m posting on, and the topic for the day. I also add in any other events/activities for the day, as well as phone calls and follow ups I have for other business matters. I’ve also used Charlie Gilkey’s planners ~ which I liked very much.

2. A handy dandy composition notebook.

I have a composition notebook for each element of my business. So for my blogs, I have a notebook, for the new project I can’t wait to tell you about I have a notebook, and for the other arm of my business I also have a notebook. This is where I write down ideas, make plans, create mind maps, etc… This makes it really easy to find any ideas I’ve had about a particular element of my business. Post it notes get lost. Write it all down in one place specific to that element.

3. Pomodoro Technique

This is relatively new, and I’m not using exactly as originally intended, but here’s the pieces I love.

The daily to do list… I write down everything I want to get done in a day on the list. (A pomodoro is a time period of 25 minutes ~ with 5 minute breaks between sessions, and a 30 minute break after 4.) I don’t necessarily use the timer, but I do in some circumstances.

The unplanned and urgent list: Here’s the key to what makes this work for me… I am easily distracted. So when I get distracted, or something comes into my mind and I think I need to go take care of it RIGHT NOW I write it at the bottom of my to do list. This urgent and unplanned section goes from the bottom up.

I DO NOT deviate from the current task at hand, I simply write this distraction down. When I’m done either with my 25 minutes or with the task at hand I will then go and take a look at the distraction and see if it needs to be added to today’s list, or maybe tomorrow or Friday’s list, or maybe it really wasn’t important at all and my mind was just messing with me because I didn’t really want to do what I was doing. (yeah, it happens!) So that has been VERY helpful for me to start getting more done in less time.

3. Editorial Calendar plugin

I don’t personally use this one, I prefer paper and pen, but there is a free editorial calendar plugin for wordpress where you can just plug your topics into the calendar and it will track it all for you. Easy cheesy and if technology is your cup of tea then it might be a great addition.

When you have productivity tools in place to help you keep on track, as well as an editorial calendar so you know exactly what you should be writing you’ll find it’s much easier to keep your content on track and coming. Trying to wing it with your content is like planning to fail. It’s so easy to let it slide, to leave it to later, to just skip it… but as you know… your content is the KEY to your business. Don’t plan to fail… create a plan.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and how you create an editorial calendar. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Back in the day you could easily throw up a 1 page site, target a single keyword, build links and pull in money. That just doesn’t work anymore. Google wants more.

If you’re going to give Google what Google wants, so you can get organic traffic from them you’re going to have to have a plan before you start any website project. It doesn’t matter if you’re creating a site for affiliate marketing, or social media marketing, or even a site to create leads for your network marketing business… you’re going to need a plan.

I must say… the planning stage of any website is my absolute FAVORITE part. Here’s how how I handle planning a website project.

1. Get a HUGE piece of paper and your colored markers. (yeah, I’m old school like that)

You could also use a mind map program if you want, but paper is really fun.

2. Identify your target market ~ the more specific you can be the better.

Busy moms vs. stay at home moms with multiple kids who need to earn an extra income ~ is better.

3. Identify 4 to 7 very general topics your target market would want information about.

for example… If I’m targeting stay at home moms who want to earn extra income ~ I might choose, cooking, budgeting, kiddos, online business, self

4. Break those general topics (now your categories) into more specific topics. (I like to have 3 to 5 more specific topics)

cooking = 5 ingredient meals, crockpot cooking, menu planning

5. From those more specific topics (now your subcategories) you’re going to come up with specific ideas ~ which will be your posts.

5 ingredient meals = several recipes made of only 5 ingredients

crockpot cooking = tips to use a crockpost, saving money using a crockpot, recipes for crockpot cooking

menu planning = weekly meal plan, tips on meal planning, monthly meal planning, weekly meal planning

Once you’ve come up with these specific post ideas you can use your keyword tool to find the specific words/phrases people are using to look for that topic. ie… your targeted keywords

6. Create a posting schedule.

There are blog posting calendars around… I generally use Charlie Gilkey’s planners for my posting schedule. There is also the wp editorial calendar plugin which many find wonderful.

Once you’ve gone through this process you will have tons of content ideas in front of you. If you started with 7 large categories, and came up with 5 subcategories, and then came up with only 5 specific topics for each you’d already have 175 post ideas. What’s really great about it, is the content is completely and utterly directed toward your target market. Doing this work up front helps you really stay targeted, focused and on track to provide content your target market will love.

Now you just have to write them.

You have a couple options here as well. You could just bust them out. Write them all, schedule them to publish regularly and move on to link building. You could also set up a publishing schedule for yourself and write a new post on each of your publishing days. Once you’re post is written and published then jump on link building for that post.

Gone are the days where one page sites targeting single keywords are going to work… you’re going to have to be in it for the long haul, and prepared to write LOTS of content.

Here’s the cool thing though… you’ll end up ranking for a BUNCH of keywords you never expected or could have dreamed of and those seriously unexpected long tails can bring in quite a bit of traffic.

If you need help planning a website project, or getting one you’ve already started off the ground join the KISS Club.

I think we can all agree that video is the big up and coming thing, a great way to promote your site, get traffic, and build your brand. Last time we talked about the Red Light Trick… and people either thought it was awesome and would totally work, or they said they just couldn’t get over being camera shy.

Ok…today I’ve got two options for you camera shy folks so you can still dive into the world of video.

1. Animoto ~ slide show videos

This is a service that allows you to create really professional looking videos by adding images and words. (no face… and you don’t even have to talk). Animoto does all the work for you. They put the images together, they even give you some options for music for your videos. It’s an awesome service, quick easy… and if you checked out some of the videos in the comments of the Red Light Trick post you’ll see they look very professional.

There are multiple levels to Animoto so you can choose the features that will best fit your needs. The free level only gives you 30 second videos, so it’s definitely a great deal to upgrade to the plus level where you get full length videos. Your videos are also downloadable at the plus level and they’re not at the free level.

Here’s an example of a very quick Animoto video I did a while back.

2. PowerPoint Presentation Videos

If you’d like to do a little more of the video creation yourself, and have a little more control over the process I’ve found some excellent video tutorials for you. Oliver will walk you through the basics of making power point videos for the web. Again, no camera time for you! He will show you all the tricks to make super cool videos for marketing, premium content, creating products ~ anything you can use video for!

If you had someone make these videos for you it would cost you an arm and a leg… but with these simple tutorials you’ll be able to make them yourself! You can see a couple videos on this page to see if his learning style is going to be a good fit for you.

So there you have it… slide show videos and powerpoint presentation videos… two more ways you can create video even if you ARE camera shy.

Make sure you come back and shoot me a link to your first video! Can’t wait to see it.

If you’re not sure where video fits in your marketing plan, and you’d like to do some masterminding… join the KISS Club! That’s where it all happens.

For the don’t like how you look/sound I only have one thing to say… get over it. You sound and look totally different to yourself then you do to anyone else. If you want to video market ~ just do it.

One thing you can do to get over the look/sound thing though is this… make a video and then edit the hell out of it. You’ll have to keep listening and looking while you’re editing and at some point you’ll stop caring, because you’ll be focused not on YOU but on the task at hand… and it will be totally different.

As for camera shy ~ I have a HUGE tip for you on that one:

You can go to my other website for more video marketing tips… and connect with me on Facebook ~ I’ve been giving a lot of video marketing tips to people over there ~ if we’re not friends on facebook yet ~ shoot me a message and we’ll connect.

If you’d like to start using more video in your marketing efforts but are running into roadblocks I’d love to help you get on track. Join the KISS Club and we’ll work through it together.

You can quickly create a video and upload it to youtube… but before you do that it’s really important to know, in your mind, what you want this video to accomplish. You’re not just making videos because they’re fun… they’re part of your marketing strategy. So… what do you want this video to accomplish? Do you want it to get people to like your fanpage? Do you want it to get people to opt in to your list? Do you want it to let people get a good feel for who you are and what you’re about?

It doesn’t matter what you want your video to do, but it does matter that you know what that thing is! If you want your videos to convert ~ which just means getting people to take a desired action ~ then there are 4 elements you MUST include in every single video you make.

For you non watchers out there… here’s those 4 crucial elements:

1. An intro

Introduce yourself, and where you’re from. People don’t buy products, they buy people… the more real you are the more people will connect with you.

2. What’s in it for them.

Tell people right up front why they should watch your video, what are they going to get out of it. (and make sure you’re creating a video they’re going to get something out of!)

3. The content.

This is what you’ve promised them in #2 so make sure you give it. I suggest 3 tips for videos because you want to keep your videos relatively short ~ preferably under 3 minutes… it’s an ADD world out there these days.

4. Call to Action.

Remember, you decided before making your video what you wanted it to do for you? Well here’s where you tell people how to do that. If you don’t tell people what to do next, they’ll just do nothing. So tell them… like my page, comment below, go to my site… whatever it is you can have them do to accomplish the mission of your video ~ do that.

So there you have it 4 crucial elements every video must have to convert. Stay tuned next week when I’ll give you some tips on making videos that actually get watched.

I hope you don’t just read this post, and watch this video and go on your merry way. Video is POWERFUL. Find time TODAY to create a video, and post it to youtube!! Then come back and leave a link. We’ll check it out and give you some social love, and get more eyes on your video.

Today I thought I’d tackle yet another of the problems/complaints I hear when it comes to internet marketing. This one I hear a LOT.

I can’t write. I hate to write. I don’t want to write. English isn’t my first language, I can’t write.

This one is pretty hard for me to understand, not only because I love to write, but also because it’s not like you have to write an award winning novel to succeed in internet marketing. However, I do understand that many many people get stuck on this point.

So here’s the fix.

Video Marketing.

You don’t have to write. You just have to find another way to get your content out into the world. No one ever said your content had to be in type written words.

Youtube is now the second most used sight for search. That’s HUGE!

There’s no reason why you can’t create video and drive tons and tons of traffic to your site through youtube and other video sharing sites.

I can already hear the yeah buts now… yeah but, I don’t want to be on video, yeah but, I don’t know how, yeah but, I look terrible, sound terrible yadda yadda yadda.

You’ve got to make a decision. If you’re going to succeed in internet marketing you’re going to have to create content. You’ve only got a limited number of options.

1. words

2. video

3. audio

That’s about it. So it’s time to pick one and dive in. I’ve done video off and on through the years. I’ve mostly used it to illustrate a point, or to make it easier to understand something because you can actually see it. However, the last few videos I’ve done have gotten HUGE responses from the people who’ve seen them.

They’re saying things like:

I thought I “knew” you, but now I really feel like I know the real you.

I saw this video and now I really love you. (which was in all caps!)

This video really spoke to me and I really connected with you.

Do you think by creating that kind of connection with your readers you’re going to be able to build a rabid following of fans? People who will not only love you, but tell their friends and fans to love you too?

That’s the power of video baby.

I’m by no means an expert in video marketing… but lucky for you I know someone who is! Gideon Shalwick. I worked with him while I was in the Blog Mastermind Program with Yaro Starak. Gideon is a masterful video marketer… and he’s put together a free report that walks you through the basics of getting started with video.

If you hate to write, video is just the thing. All you have to do is talk, no writing involved.

Grab Gideon’s Rapid Video Blogging report, and please come back and post a link to the next video you upload after reading the report. I’ll be happy to check it out and “like” it.

No matter what internet marketing strategy you choose to follow there will always be road blocks. Your success depends on not how many road blocks you encounter but how you handle them. Get out there and overcome a road block today!!

If you can’t figure out how to get around the road block, join me at the KISS Club ~ we’re master road block crushers!

As someone who’s been in this industry for a long time I hear a lot of complaints (some would call them excuses) as to why people have not succeeded or haven’t even taken action on building their business to the next level. There are 3 of these complaints that I hear time and time again.

Today I’m going to show you how you can overcome any and all of those complaints with one simple tool. PLR.

What is PLR?

PLR stands for private label rights. It’s basically content someone else has written and sells to you to use in any way you see fit. You can change the whole thing, you can change pieces of it, you can break it up and use it for other purposes and most of all you can put your name on it and call it yours.

Isn’t there a lot of crappy PLR out there?

Oh hell yeah there is. But hang in here with me, I’m going to give you some great places to pick up quality PLR from some great writers.

Top 3 Internet Marketing Problems and how you can solve them now!

1. I don’t have time.

This is a huge one. I hear it all the time. People don’t have “time” to do their business, to write articles, to create an ebook, to write a special report to give to people for signing up to their list. I could go off on a tangent about this excuse of no time… but I won’t. (are you watching TV? ahem)

With PLR you can cut the time involved in writing to next to nothing. You can find PLR reports, article packs, even complete ebooks on just about any given topic.

Once you get the PLR you’ll want to read through it, and then make some changes so it sounds more like your voice. But you don’t have to spend any of the time researching, actually writing it or putting it together. Which can be huge.

Here’s an example: Right now MomPLR is having a sale on a brand new PLR ebook called Family Fitness for Moms. It’s a 15 page ebook that you could sell or give away. But check this out… because this is what makes PLR so cool. It comes in 4 different formats, the package also comes with 5 articles on the same topic, and the ecover for the ebook, as well as the source code in all the different formats as well. With the 50% discount code of fitness (case sensitive) you can get all of this for $10 bucks.

Problem solved… you get an ebook, articles to use on your blog or for an article marketing campaign and the ecover to use on your site or in your marketing materials. If you have a mom related site you have your first product right THERE! So there goes the time excuse.

2. I’m not an expert how I can write about that?

This is another big reason I hear why people aren’t moving forward. My first piece of advice is to pick a topic you have some knowledge or interest in, but if you haven’t done that, then PLR can be your answer. No matter what topic you’ve chosen you can almost always find some PLR on the subject. Just taking a look at one PLR site I can find information on creating a family tree website, wine, baseball collectibles, penny stock investing, how to succeed online, audiobooks, golf gadgets… as you can see PLR is NOT just about internet marketing anymore.

So if you feel you don’t have enough information or expertise in your niche just look for some PLR. You will not only get some content, but as you read the plr you’re pretty likely to learn more and more about your topic.

3. I just can’t keep up with all these sites I’ve created!

This is a big one for the niche marketers out there. Maybe you’ve created a bunch of seasonal sites, and it’s tough to keep up. I get that. This is where PLR can be your best friend. Not only can you buy plr article packs related to your topic you can post to your site. You can also take the same article, spin it, and submit it to article directories to build links back to your site to get more traffic.

If you’ve got a halloween site you’re in luck, more and more people are putting together Halloween costume plr packs. Here’s one from Tiffany Dow ~ who is a great writer! The same holds true for Christmas. Tiffany has quite a few PLR packs related to Christmas, Christmas gift giving as well as the Amazon top sellers list. Just go to her PLR site and put the word Christmas in the search box… you’ll be quite surprised.

Again with these niche packs you’ve got articles you can post on your blog as well as use for article marketing purposes. If you get a nice pack or two you’ll already have everything you need to do for a couple rounds of Backlinking 101!

So you see, there really are some easy ways to overcome even the biggest internet marketing problems. Overcoming obstacles starts with looking for a solution instead of complaining about the problem… when you focus on the solution, it will appear, or something or someone will show up with something that will solve the problem.

What do I look for in Good PLR?

Over the years I’ve found some quality PLR in a number of places. When you’re looking for PLR you want to look for a couple different things.

1. Make sure that the person you’re buying from is actually writing the PLR.

You definitely don’t want to shop in a store where they’ve gone out, bought a bunch of crap plr and are now passing it off as their own. (that’s very bad and will be a waste of your money)

2. Make sure they’re only selling a limited supply of the PLR.

You don’t want a bajillion other people out there giving away or publishing your plr. The sites I’ve linked to here will show you how many licenses (or copies) of each piece of PLR they will be selling. Example: the Family Fitness PLR is only selling 100 copies.

3. Get a sample if you’re in doubt.

Not a sample of a few sentences either… any bad plr can probably have a few good sentences in it. Get at least one whole article ~ or check the site to see if they have samples available on the site itself. You’ll be able to know after reading an article or two the quality you’re going to get.

4. Use a recommended PLR source.

The best way to find great PLR is to ask around, and find out who your friends and/or mentors are using. Here’s a few of my favorite PLR sources.

Tiffany Dow at PLRMiniMart. she’s an excellent writer. She writes about a plethora of topics, and her prices are great. She also frequently runs some REALLY good sales.

Nicole Dean over at EasyPLR. She has high quality plr on numerous topics. She’s also currently running a 20% off special on any order over $25… so bonus!

Yummy PLR ~ is hands down the BEST food plr I’ve found anywhere. Great articles, recipes and reports on a wide variety of food topics. They also have some great bargains on out of season topics, so you can get a fast start for next year.

Kelly Cannon who is a member of the KISS Club, a great writer and getting her new PLR site off the ground has some great PLR packs available. If you’re trying to get those last minute articles in to boost your site rankings grab her Halloween PLR. If you’ve already moved on to Christmas, she’s got a great Christmas Decorating pack. Perfect for article marketing or filling in some useful content around those product posts.

There you have it, my recommends for quality PLR and solutions to the top 3 internet marketing problems. Now you’re left with no excuses and the only thing left to do is get to work!

If you’re still feeling lost, join us in the KISS Club. We’ll get you on track and moving forward!

It is that time of year… vacation time. It seems everyone is going on vacation and coming home to blog about it. I do love seeing the pictures, and hearing about your fun times… but I would enjoy it much more if somehow related to the topic of your blog. I do come and read your blog regularly because it’s about something I am interested in… so while I love to get to know you, I’d love it even more if I could get something topic related out of it too.

Here’s some examples:

Book Bloggers ~

If you’re an avid reader, and your blog is all about reading books ~ why not tell me the books you took on vacation with you? Tell me how you found time to read on vacation! Give me a list of the juiciest beach reads I could take with me ~ in between the pictures of your fantastic time.

Food Bloggers ~

So much of vacation is the food! Share with me what you ate, what you made, where you ate… those are the things I want to know. Did you do your own cooking ~ how did it work? Give me some tips to make cooking on my next family vacation easier.

Save Money Bloggers ~

I’m assuming you took an affordable vacation ~ share with me how you did it! Where did you save the money? What did you splurge on? Is there a place I can get a discount if I decide to vacation in the same place? Are there places I can go to get a discount on a wider variety of vacation destinations? I’m excited to see your pics, but give me something that’s going to help me too!

Kid Bloggers ~

Please… give me some tips for fun things to keep my kiddo engaged and learning even while we’re on vacation. Where did you go that they loved? Where did you go that they hated? What crafts or projects did you do while you were on vacation? What is there to learn from swimming in a wave pool? Blogging about special needs kids ~ please… give me some tips on how you managed your vacation with a special needs child. Did you find ways to accommodate your kiddo? Were hotels, businesses willing to accommodate you or provide ways to make your visit easier? Those are the kind of places I want to support if I have a kiddo with disabilities, and I probably don’t know about them!

Internet Marketing Bloggers ~

Marketing ideas ABOUND on vacation… please tell me ideas you got for your business while you were on vacation! Did a hotel do something extraordinary that you can find a twist on to implement in your business? I know as an IM blogger my mind is always on marketing… I can find the most interesting ideas even while out to at dinner at Road House. Please, share with us any marketing ideas that came to you while you were swimming in the ocean!

Craft Bloggers ~

Tell us about that one of a kind piece you picked up, or the shells you gathered and how you’re going to use them. Talk to us about the crafty things your kids did. Talk to us about any inspiration you got from your hotel, or something you saw while on vacation ~ I still remember the color of the sky when I went fishing with my Dad the summer before my Senior year of High School. Those vacation memories stick, and they can turn into something wonderful.

Travel Bloggers ~

Please, tell us where you went, where you got good deals, where the food was good, where we should go. Share it all. If I’m reading your blog I am looking to go somewhere (or at least enjoy the thought of going somewhere) so please, share with us what you have learned in your travels to your vacation destination.

It’s really fun to share your vacation stories, and we as your readers are eager to hear them, and get to know you better for them. Find a way to relate your vacation to the topic of your blog and we’ll be even happier. If you can’t find a way to make your vacation topic related then I would probably think twice about writing about it.

What about you? Have you written a vacation post? Did it relate to the topic of your blog? Do you see how you could have written it differently to maintain your topic for your readers? Let me know in the comments.

First, let’s just get this out of the way… memes can be a great way to get traffic. They are fun, and a great way to meet other bloggers and make connections.

With that said…

Memes can also kill your blog.

There is a meme for every day of the week these days… wordless Wednesdays, Meal Plan Mondays, How Pinteresting Wednesdays, Thankful Thursdays… it goes on and on.

While memes can be a great way to get traffic they can also fill up your blog and stop you from adding any “real” content.

When you become a blogger your blog will probably fall into one of a few categories…

1. personal blog

2. update the family blog

3. try to help people solve a problem blog

4. make some money blog

All of these options are great, there’s nothing wrong with any of them, but you need to recognize where you want your blog to sit. If your blog is a #1 or 2… then feel free to meme all week. It’s your blog, an expression of your life, and it doesn’t need to answer the need of anyone else.

However, if you put your blog up to help other people get through something, or you want to start making some money online you need to pick your memes carefully.

Here’s the thing… when someone comes to your blog the question in their head is going to be:

What’s in it for me.

Fact.

They may be looking for information, or to connect, or to build a relationship with you, they may be looking for a place to advertise ~ whatever they are looking for they are looking for something, and they will be looking at your blog with the perspective of what it does for them.

Now… if your blog is filled with memes it may be fun ~ and it may make coming up with something to publish that day easier for you, but I can almost guarantee it will not answer the “what’s in it for me” question of your reader.

What happens then is this: you get traffic. People will come to your blog from the memes ~ you’ll see them come, you’ll be all excited that you got traffic that day. But they won’t subscribe. They won’t come back.

Why would they? It’s all about you, and nothing for them.

People are super busy… and in my experience they aren’t going to stick around or take time to repeatedly read a blog that doesn’t do something for them.

Pick your memes carefully

Now, I’m not saying memes can’t be useful, and shouldn’t be used. No Way Man. I participate in Meal Plan Monday every week.

However, it fits my niche.

I don’t do MPM on this blog… that wouldn’t make sense. People don’t come here looking for recipes and meal plans. They come here looking for real information about how to make money with their blogs.

However, on It’s a Wahm Life it fits perfectly. I’m offering information about how to help work at home moms succeed, and getting dinner on the table is definitely part of that.

I will add… that I constantly reevaluate what I’m doing on my blogs. I realized the list of meals I’m making is probably NOT answering enough of “what’s in it for me” so I’ve started adding more content to that weekly post. Some tips on meal planning, a recipe, tips on using coupons, saving money at the store etc. Now when people hit my site through MPM they immediately see the value in being there ~ they see what’s in it for them to stick around for a while, to come back again on Wednesday.

How do I know which memes to do?

This takes a little digging and clarity on your part. It takes understanding what you offer on your blog and what you want people to take away when they leave.

Once you figure this out, it’s helpful to create a “question” to ask yourself when you get ready to publish content. This question can help you decide if you’re staying true to your blog’s purpose of if you’re just filling the days and hitting publish.

Here’s the questions for my blogs:

It’s a Wahm Life ~ does this information help someone become a more successful wahm?

Here ~ does this information help someone build a more successful blog?

As you can see… if I’m asking that question of myself when I publish on this site, Wordless Wednesday would probably NOT be a yes in answer to that question, however, Tip Tuesday definitely could be.

If you want to create a successful, money making blog it’s important to have a little strategy behind your efforts… getting really clear about what your blog is about, and what you want people to leave your site with is a great start to creating your strategy. When you know that, you can start adding in things that help you move forward with those strategies. Memes can definitely be part of that, and when used strategically can be a great way to not only get traffic, but keep them engaged on your site as well.

If you’re lost when it comes to all of this, no worries. (If you do a quick search on this site for wordless wednesday you’ll probably find a few cute pictures of my kid!) We all have no idea what we’re doing when we get started. It’s a learning curve, and no matter where you’re at, there’s always time to do something differently. I’m really excited to say that I’m going to start working one on one with people again… YAY. In a totally different way than I have ever done before… so if you’re looking for some help with any/all of this “strategy” stuff, stay tuned.

Oh… BTW… newsletter readers will get the news first (and just might get something special before the rest of the world) so you might want to subscribe.

If you don’t want to wait… you can always join the KISS Club ~ this is a great way to brainstorm with me and a very friendly community to help get your blog growing by leaps and bounds.

Sooo… tell me, what’s the question you’re going to ask before you publish to your blog? Please… feel free to share in the comments or on the facebook page.

I have had a couple requests to do guest posts on my blogs recently, some of the requests were great, others, not so great. It got me all revved up to write a post about guest posting. As I was going through my archives I realized I’ve already said a lot of what I was going to say today… so I decided to yank a couple posts out of the archives. (no sense repeating my long winded self lol).

The Basics on Guest Posting: This post answers the basic questions, what is guest posting, why would I give someone else my great content, talks about how to find places to guest post, and a step by step outline how to approach people you’d like to guest post for.

What you need to know before writing your guest post: This post goes over the questions you need to ask/know the answers to once you’ve got yourself a guest posting gig. If you know what the blog owner wants, then you’re more likely to give them something they’re willing to publish.

How to Become a Guest Blogger: This post covers some of the best ways to connect with people, and ask them if you can write a post for their blog.

Guest Posting; What Others are Saying: This last post I pulled together some of the best resources I could find about guest posting. Including posts from ProBlogger, CopyBlogger and MenWithPens. I also link to a community that is specifically designed for finding places to guest post.

Taking Your Article Marketing to the Next Level. If you’re still a little bit leery about approaching other bloggers you can ease your way into guest posting by using “High Profile Content Sites”. This is pretty close to article marketing, but with a twist, and a bonus. It’s a great way to build up some courage to do some guest posting.

Here’s the thing about guest posting…

There are SO many benefits to it. Just off the top of my head:

1. Get to know and reach other blogger’s community.

2. Link in content on another great blog

3. Get to know and connect with other bloggers in your niche.

4. More traffic.

I could probably go on and on… and I have in the posts listed above lol.

Here’s the three main resources I use when it comes to guest blogging and making connections:

Guest Posting Workbook by Chris Garrett. Very easy to read, understand and implement workbook to get you started with guest posting.

Blogging World Tour by Nicole Dean. If you want to make a summer adventure out of guest posting. This is the definitive guide. If you’re ready to make a big leap, and do a LOT of work to really move your blog forward this Summer, I highly recommend this book.

7 Steps to Networking Your Way to the A List by Dave Navarro. This is a free workbook, and it’s worth it’s weight in Gold. You’ll have to opt in for it, but Dave’s fantastic, and his free workbooks are so much better than many paid products I’ve bought.

All right… I hope this has got you thinking about doing a little guest posting! Remember, I accept guest posts over at It’s A Wahm Life… so if you’ve got a website that is relevant to my readers, or you want to talk about a topic that’s relevant, feel free to shoot me an email through the contact form… make sure you follow the “rules” I outlined in the above posts. I don’t accept all requests… but I’ll give you a hint, if you use my first name, and actually know what my site is about, and tell me what you want to write about, we’ll probably talk.
