Whether you are writing articles, building squidoo lenses, or marketing affiliate products, one key to success is choosing a good niche. A niche where people are searching, products are available and a niche that is not too competitive.

So where do you start? I think a great place to start is just by looking to see what is popular. Ebay is a huge hitter online. If there are a lot of people buying something in a niche on ebay, it is probably a pretty good place to start your research.

The easy way to do this is by going to Ebay Pulse.

Ebay Pulse will give you top 10 most popular searches done on ebay. It will also lead you to the most popular stores that are selling those products.

You can do a search on any topic and see what the top searches on in that area.

This is perfect for choosing a niche. Just think about an area you want to focus on, then see what the top searches were in that area. You can even refine your search and your niche by doing a search on the category from top ten searches and then picking a product that comes up.

Here’s an example: today the top pick at ebay pulse is Iphone. I can tell you now, that iphone is probably a very competitive niche. :) So let’s look in the cell phones, pda, category. Here’s what I get then:

1. iphone
2. verizon
3. nokia
4. cingular
5. blackberry
6. motorola
7. sprint
8. sidekick
9. samsung
10. nextel

Looking at these options you might see something that would be better to work on as a niche. You may be able to find a product within one of these categories you can develop a lens for or write an article about. You know people are looking for these products, you just need to know if you will be able to dominate the market with your particular strategies. You would need to do further research, but if you are looking for ideas Ebay pulse is the place to go.
