Regular Evaluation is Key

It’s really easy (at least for me ~ who’s not a huge fan of change) to get locked into what I’m doing, and just keep doing it. I’ve got the schedule down pat. I know what comes next in my day. Day in, day out… same actions.

That’s fun… I love it.

However, sometimes a little evaluation goes a long way.

Sometimes it’s important to stop and really look at your business and SEE what you’re doing. Are the actions you’re taking every day moving you in the right direction? Are you actually moving toward your goals, or are you sitting around doing the same thing over and over and going no where?

Evaluation is important because it allows us to take stock of what we’re doing, and whether it is valuable in reference to getting us where we want to go.

Here’s some actions I take regularly:

These are all great actions ~ however ~ are they moving me toward my goals is the question?

Here are some of the goals I wrote down on my monthly planning sheet for July.

1. Build membership for KISS Club

2. Build opt in list

3. Build connections in IM community

4. Continue creating video

5. Repurpose more content

Hmmm…

Posting regularly is helping increase my opt in list ~ especially now that I’ve added the popup domination plugin.

In fact, the actions I’m taking are probably moving me forward toward most of those goals ~ although I have fallen down on repurposing.

But in the evaluation I realized I wasn’t moving “fast enough”. I wasn’t going to reach the numbers I set in my mind this month.

So… what’s one thing I could add to the mix? What’s one thing I could do that would move me toward my goals a little quicker?

Actually, taking action on repurposing (which was already on the goal list) would probably do that. Taking content I’ve already written and putting it together in a pdf, or in video format, or even audio format will allow me to push the reach of that content and increase my opt in rate, and my membership rate.

(see I was pretty smart to think of that at the beginning of the month) :)

So it’s almost the end of the month, and now I know what I need to do, what I need to add to my daily schedule to really boost my forward momentum on my goals.

This kind of evaluation is great for your short term goals ~ as well as looking at your long term goals for your business.

If you’re long term goal is passive income (set and forget) and you’re working in a strategy where you’re going to have to keep taking action every day to keep bringing traffic and sales ~ you may want to reevaluate what you’re working on. You may want to add something else to the mix that makes your income a little more passive.

You don’t have to scrap what you’re doing ~ especially if it’s working, but it might be time to add one thing. One thing that will move you toward your ultimate goal.

Have you taken time to do an evaluation of your business? Your day to day actions? What do you think? Is everything aligned and moving you in the right direction? Do you need to add one thing? What’s it going to be? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.

Great information as usual Jackie. Could you let me know how you've set up your membership site within your wordpress site. I want to do the same for my site. If I use wishlistmember can I install it on a page in my existing site?

I started off with wishlist member and ended up refunding because it didn't work and caused some ENORMOUS problems and TERRIBLE customer service. I ended up going to with DAP (digital access pass) and it's working quite well. I wish I could tell you how to do it, but I can't. My Tech Whiz Michelle did it all for me. You can contact her and she could probably help you. If you're a member at KISS Club she's there as well, just ask in the tech area.

Evaluation is definitely important. What is probably left to be said on the subject is that you need to change the criteria from time to time even if your goals are the same. This means that when you evaluate your marketing activity, you should keep an eye on the new online strategies that you may benefit from. The bad news is that keeping yourself updated is extremely time consuming. So here's my question: how to stick to your rising standards without compromising? How does an ever-growing self-evaluation process look like?

No one knows the *deinition of inanity* better then the blogger/marketer that's been doing it a while.

"Doing the same things time and again, expecting different results."

Amen. lol

You also brought up an interesting point that I'd like to extend on a bit...

"You don’t have to scrap what you’re doing ~ especially if it’s working, but it might be time to add one thing. One thing that will move you toward your ultimate goal."

As true as that is, eventually something is gonna have to give. Eventually you may have to evaluate all that is working and try to decide what is working...better then the others.

10 things working - 20 things working - 30 things working - and so on. If you keep adding adding adding without taking anything away, you will completely run out if time.

Very true Dennis ~ and not how my brain works. :) I wrote the sentence you quoted because I would just say "heck with it" and start something completely new, and just leave what "wasn't working" in the dust.

There's something to be said for trying to look at things from another perspective and see if there's something a little different you can do to make something work.

I hear what you're saying ~ and I'm not the kind of person who just keeps adding and adding ~ I end up starting something new ~ so realizing adding one thing instead of throwing it out was a big one for me. :)

Every year millions of people set goals and then immediately proceed to ignore, or forget, those goals. It is so easy to get wrapped up in whatever it is we are focusing on right then and forget the big picture.

Excel spreadsheets have now become one of my biggest tools to help determine my progress. Once a task is completed, I turn the text green and move on. When my spreadsheet is green(you know...looks like money), I am done!

I have several sites that I run everyday and sometimes it's hard to organize things. I have some helpers with me for my daily evaluation and so far I'm getting on the right track.
