How to Get html From Amazon
Oct 06
Html is the code you need to create a link to a product. The html code you use for creating links from Amazon is the same as the cody you use to create any other link ~ whether it’s a link to a clickbank product or a link from a blog to a lens. The same code is used.
How to get code from Amazon:
1. You must be in the associate program in Amazon to be able to get code. (You must be an affiliate)
2. Go to the product page you wish to link to.
3. Along the top of the page you will see a grey bar. On the bar is a link to “link to this page”.
4.Click that link and a new box will open.
5. Go to squidoo and open the module you want your link in. (click edit at the top of the module)
6. Right click your mouse and choose paste. Your code will be inserted into your module.
No matter where you’re linking you will be using the same html code. Amazon provides the html for you, other places you may need to write it yourself. It’s very simple.
Here’s the code you will need to use:
You simply replace yoururl.com with your actual affiliate link ~ or whatever link you want people to go to.
Then change the your keywords here to the actual words you want someone to click on. There are other pieces of code you can add to this, but this is the basic code you need to create a clickable link.
If you have html questions feel free to ask them here ~ but please subscribe to the RSS feed and read the comments on old posts and new content that is coming out ~ you may find your questions has already been asked and answered ~ then you won’t have to wait for me to answer it again.

Looking for the same answer Jamie asked. I have an image within my text block. I have several text links the html works fine. When I try to add a link to the image, I get thrown to the home page of Squidoo.
High on my list….CHECK LINKS!!!
Thanks again Jackie

NICE!! html can be tough but once you get it you get it, and it will work anywhere you need it to work.
nice job working through it.

I think I’ve got it! Jackie, you are appreciated more than I can say. I believe I can go forward at this point. I have some more learning to do regarding links, but I’ll take it one step at a time. Thanks again.

Here’s a quick video to show you what I mean.

Are you saving the module itself (at the bottom of each module edit area there’s a save button) or the lens? It’s not about saving the lens as a draft ~ but you have to save the module. If you don’t save the module it won’t see the changes you’ve made.

Hi Jackie – I have tried everything many times over and all I get in my squidoo module is the html code. After I hit SAVE DRAFT nothing happens. I have examined all the instructions and can’t figure why this is so difficult. I am always in the associates place at amazon but nothing seems to work. Is there some other secret?
You have to be an amazon associate to see the grey bar. If you are logged into your Amazon associates account you should see the grey bar.
the chain ~ well that depends on where you are. If you are in most squidoo modules (other than the intro module) you won’t see them ~ you’ll have to use code. If you are in a text editor ~ there are a bunch of icons and stuff at the top of your page then you look for the chain and click it. Then you enter the url that means just start with the http:// part of your link and it will make the link for you.
Let me know if that helps.

I think my comment got lost, so I’ll repeat: I have never seen a gray bar at the top of any amazon site. Where is it?
Also – where the chain link you say I need to click on? Don’t see that one either. Thank you, Jackie, I hope you can help.
Hi – I have never seen a gray bar at the top of an Amazon.com site. How do I find the gray bar? Also – could you explain the chain link. I don’t know how to find that one either. I’ve spent hours trying to get a proper Amazon link. Help!
I’m about to get to work on this, after reading all this good information. I’m new at this – have tried to get Amazon to help but it’s very time consuming. You are the best help I’ve come across yet! I’ll be coming back to your site faithully.
Check this post on how to make a visual call to action.

Thanks Jackie for the tip. I have a question, how do I add my Amazon link including the image and the price and the link. I have been trying with all modules including the Amazon modules but I am not managing.

No problem ~ glad it worked. I’m trying to batch task comments (ha ha yeah right), so the delay was no problem.

Thanks Jackie, that worked!!!
Sorry about the delay in my response, I had a Doctor’s appointment today.

You click the source button whenever you want to add html to your page. You have to add the complete html code in ~ and if it showed up on your page you most likely missed a bit of the code (a period or quotes or something). You can go between source and regular whenever ~ just make sure you are in source area if you’re going to be adding html or else it will show up as code on your page.

I guess a better question is how do I use the “source” button?
Follow me @casurette on Twitter!
When do I click the source button? Because I tried that and it just put html code in to my content that I had already written.
Follow me @casurette on Twitter!
You only get a text editor in the intro module. If you click the source button you can just type in the html code instead of highlighting. Here’s a picture of the source button. http://screencast.com/t/NzZlOWZkNzIt

Jackie,
I have a problem. Because I’m disabled I cannot use the mouse like you do, I have to use mouse keys (that’s where you use the num pad to move your mouse around on the screen) and I cannot highlight the words to do anchor text. I tried to do it using the URL option within the text editor it looked good as far as highlighting the words but when I click on it after I have saved it, it is not clickable. So, I guess my question is do you always get a text editor when doing your lenses and do you know of anyway around this?
Thanks!
Cindy

Hi Sema,
Are you putting the code in an actual text module or the intro module? If it’s the intro module you have to click the “source” button and then put the code in.
If you’re not getting anything it makes me think you’re missing a small piece of the code or you’re grabbing the iframe code that amazon gives you to get the square ad with the image/text in it. This kind of link will not work. You have to click the “text only” button as shown in the video and get the text only code which is html instead of an iframe.

you can do it either way. For beginners who don’t quite understand all the nuances of code it’s easier to just grab all of it. If you can grab what you need without it, then do that.

Hi Jackie,
I notice there is an image source code following the text-link code. I don’t know why it’s there since there is no image associated with the link. So do you you include the image source code or delete it?
Thanks,
Aiden
yes, this happens to me sometimes too. Instead of using your mouse to paste the code click ctrl V at the same time ~ it should paste in fine. IF it doesn’t work, just paste it in the pop up window and then paste it into the text module lol

Jackie – I figured it out — I get a HUGE cookie for the day!! I just figured out what you meant about the text editor…. and what we need to do in the module is just highlight the text you want to be the hyperlink and then click on the chain link. It then goes to a pop-up window and that is where you paste.
Threw me for a LOOP as I have only been through this process once and this changed on me……. WHEW!! Now, I can go on. Thanks!!
Nope, that didn’t help. The pop-up window says that because of the security settings of my browser, I must paste the text in this pop-up window and then paste it into the text module. This did not happen on my last lens and I am frustrated right now. Any ideas?
I did get some pop-up window that said I couldn’t directly copy the html text from amazon. The pop-up window had me put the text in it and then copy to the text module. I think that may be the problem because I never got that window on the last lens. Maybe I need to restart my computer and see if I can make the glitch go away. I’ll check back.
Hey I just went to build a lens and when I opened the intro module there was a text editor~~ That was surprising. That may be part of the problem. Are you getting that? Where there are little icons at the top with options? Does it look like this for you now? http://screencast.com/t/qX0dlglKHuY
If so you have to click the “source” button to get to the html area to paste your code in.

When you click the “link to this product” in the grey bar at the top of the page, have you just put your keyword in the “link text” box they provide? Then just click highlight the text ~ and then right click and copy.
Then all you have to do is paste the whole thing in the place you want the link to show up.
When you can see all the code it means you’ve misplaced a piece of code, whether it’s putting a space where it doesn’t go, or missing an end > or something. Best is to be able to copy/paste all the code right in. Try that and let me know what happens.

Jackie – I am having trouble inserting the html link from amazon into my text module. When I go check on it, all of the code shows up in the window. I’ve done it a couple of times and it still does it. Any ideas?
It depends ~ if you are using the browse feature in text modules you can’t add a url to your image.
If you have the image hosted somewhere and you are using html to insert the image you can do it the same as you do the visual call to action.
