How to Use Long Tail Keywords
A lot of people have a hard time figuring out [tag]how to use long tail keywords[/tag]. What are they, where do I put them, how do they fit into the plan. Today that’s the question I am going to answer.
I’m going to use Squidoo as an example, because I’m familiar with Squidoo and it makes for an easy example to show how to use[tag] long tail keywords[/tag].
Remember a couple days ago I sent you back to the forums to find out what’s going on in your niche? I asked you to make a list of problems, concerns, questions that needed addressed for you niche? Remember? That list is going to come in very handy right now. If you look at that list it will suddenly look a lot like a very long list of ~ you guessed it~ long tail keywords.
If you’ve spent some time interacting with your niche you should know what the biggest issue they are having is. The one thing they need solved asap. Is it written in the form of a question on your list?
For the sake of an example let’s say I am working in the cloth diapering niche. (ah a niche near and dear to my heart ~ a niche with fanatical folks ~ almost addicted to cloth diapering ~ but very low search volume ~ anyway ~ for example’s sake I’m using it.
One of the questions I hear over and over in cloth diapering forums is how do I clean cloth diapers? If you run “how to clean cloth diapers” through google with quotes you will find it only has 6 other competing sites. (ha ha. I used this example in another blog post yesterday and that blog post is now #2 for that phrase. lol) There is also a google ad on that page as well. Good sign.
So that’s probably a good long tail keyword to use.
Now I run over to Squidoo, if you don’t have an account over there it only takes a second to get one and I suggest you do. After you’ve signed up for you account I would check and see if anyone else has already built a lens on my keyword. In the address bar I would type in the url I want to use for this lens. www.squidoo.com/how-to-clean-cloth-diapers and see if a lens comes up or a nice little sign saying it can be mine. If it’s not taken I would claim it right there.
This is where how to use long tail keywords comes in. You want to use the long tail keyword as your url. Put dashes between the words so the search engines will see them each as separate words. Then you want to use your long tail keyword as the title of your lens and as the title of your “introduction module” you also want to scatter your long tail keyword ~ exactly ~ throughout the lens at least 2 or 3 times. This will let the search engines understand that is the word you are using as your keyword for the lens.
Now this is how it’s done at Squidoo. The process is very similar no matter what marketing method you have chosen. In fact you can see the same process was used here in this blog post for the keyword “how to use long tail keywords”.
If you don’t feel you have the skills to set up your own website, and you don’t want to do a blog everyday, get over there and open an account at Squidoo and start making lenses based on your long tail keywords. Squidoo will quickly have you at the top of google and bring you lots of organic traffic.
All the information in the world is wonderful but if you don’t take action you end up with nothing. Now go DO IT!
