FOCUS.

This is a lesson I am learning ~ slowly.  It’s been a long hard lesson hindered by excellent sales copy, and promises of making millions while I sleep. I mean who DOESN’T want to make millions while they sleep?

I must add at this point I do think millions while you sleep is a possibility, but not from skipping from project to project, company to company, sales page to sales page.  It comes from laser focus. Choosing one thing and focusing on it.  Putting all your efforts on this ONE thing and of course having some fun while you do it.

I challenge you to find me someone who is making millions by jumping from one thing to another. I will give you an excellent example of focus.

His name is Jordan Adler. He just published his book Beach Money. In this book he discusses how he chose one company ~ Send Out Cards, focused, and now within two and a half years is earning over a million dollars a year. I’m sure part of that is while he’s sleeping.

It just goes to show what a little focus can do.

I understand the need for focus, and I also understand my somewhat genetic need to do new things! I get bored FAST. So how can I stay focused and still battle the boredom bug? Let’s take a look at that.

Just about everything new that comes along can  in some way, shape and form be applied to my chosen focus.

Squidoo ~ I could build a new squidoo lens to drive traffic to my website, help me find great keywords people are actually using, get leads.

Viral Ebooks ~ I could write a viral ebook leading people to my website to learn more about my chosen focus.

All the different traffic ideas I come across, of course those can always be used to drive traffic to my chosen focus.

Creating your own products ~ I could create a product that helped people understand how to choose a business, or something else that will lead them to my chosen focus ~ just like I would if I was creating an article for an affiliate product.

Speaking of affiliate products. Each of the ideas I mentioned above came via an affiliate program. They all had their own affiliate program you could join. They are all great ideas, so of course I joined up and told other people about them. That’s how it’s been for the last 6 months or so. Finding great ideas and telling other people about them.

Next thing I looked around and realized I was a Jackie of all trades ~ master of none.  I was satisfying my desire to not be bored and do new things ~ but I wasn’t satisying my desire to have a substantial passive income.

I have been getting a lot of email lately with people asking the same question over and over again ~ how can I REALLY make money online.

I have given it a lot of thought and here’s what I would tell them.

Even though affiliate marketing has a big draw ~ there’ s minimal amount of money needed to get started, you don’t need  a website, I would skip it.  There’s just too much of an opportunity to spread yourself too thin, get involved in things you don’t know anything about ~ because you can’t actually afford to purchase the product you are promoting. From my experience if you aren’t using and totally in love with the product it is hard to make a lot of affiliate sales.

What I would do is find a company, whether it’s a network marketing company, an ebook business, a turnkey business, a business that is actually yours, something you can will to your children when you die.

When choosing a company I personally look for something that is affordable to get started.  It has to not only be affordable for ME but for everyone else who might want to join as well.  I stay away from completely FREE programs ~ people just don’t take them seriously enough, myself included.  It’s so easy to not get invested because you literally have nothing invested, you’ve lost nothing if it doesn’t work, which makes it easy to quit when you aren’t a millionaire overnight.
I look for a company that has a type of ‘stacked income’. The ability for me to do something once and get paid for it over and over. This is what will create a long term passive income.

It is a MUST HAVE that the person I join with is involved in an active team.  A team who is available and willing to help new people succeed.  I want to make sure they have  a specific marketing strategy that I feel will be compatable with me, my budget and my personality.

I want to be part of a team that believes creating a relationship is the most important part of any business ~ it is NOT just a numbers game.

Of course you want to make sure the company has quality products ~ but understand that even if the products are not 100% ~ people buy into a person, not a business. YOU, being you can overcome a lot.

There you have it, that’s my answer the question how can I really make money online. Understand you aren’t going to make a million overnight ~ but like Jordan ~ if you stay focused it might only take you a couple years.  I don’t know what kind of job you could find that can offer that.

With that said ~ I have chosen my focus, and I will continue to find new things online. I will continue to share them with you all, and I will try my very best to show you how instead of getting involved in a million different things you can use a million different things to make ONE thing work.
