Internet Marketing Rant

This morning, before my work day started I was checking my email and followed a link from a fairly trusted source of internet marketing information.  One of the few lists I’m still on, although now, I’m not sure why.

Anyway, I followed the link to a product ~ Joe Vitale was involved and I like him which is why I checked it out.

The sales page on this product was OMG amazing.  15 top name internet marketers have given up their secret formula for making 1000 dollars in less than 48 hours.  On and on about all the things you are going to learn, and the money you’re going to earn.

I was hooked. But I’m not stupid. I’ve been around this game for way to long to just pull out the credit card without doing a little checking around.

Once I waded through the BS affiliate  “reviews” I finally found a site that had some honest reviews from people who had actually bought the product.

There was 10 or 15 reviews. All of them hated it. All of them said it offered NONE of the things it claimed in the sales page. All of them said there was no way a new person could do what they were talking about. You needed contacts, knowledge, tools etc.

Needless to say I didn’t buy and got to work for the day.

A bit later I was putting  some information about my new product Keyword Research Revealed in a Squidoo lens.

I found myself typing some of the same things I had read in the sales page earlier in the morning. Step by step guide, nothing held back, learn what the pros know.

I got really pissed. When I type those things ~ I mean it. All of those things are in my product. But how is anyone supposed to know???

How is anyone going to know who means it and who just knows how to write really good sales copy?

I thought, well people have read my blog/could read my blog and get to know me and trust me. HELLO ~ I knew, liked and trusted the guy from the email this morning!!

It seems to me, there is no truth in marketing when it comes to making money online.  It’s everyone out for themselves, do what you have to do to make a sale, damn anyone who gets hurt or wastes their money in the process.

It seems ridiculous to me.

However, there have been some people I have found online who are completely honest and upfront. Who really overdeliver with their products.  I think the time has come to start walking away from the IM GURUs, and start spending our money with the “little people” who really want to help others learn and grow.  It’s time as a community we start to get the word out about these “little people” so others will know there are people out there they can trust.

Here’s two on my list:

Lee McIntyre ~ he doesn’t really cover stuff in my internet marketing strategy, but he is VERY honest and his products are awesome.

Mario Xiao ~ he puts together some ROCKIN’ graphics and minisites at an excellent price. He also makes ebook covers for 19 dollars a piece.

It is also ~ as a marketer ~ time to work your way AWAY from making money online niche, and do something else.  Making money online is other niches just doesn’t seem so shady and cutthroat. It seems you can make money in other niches ~ no matter what they are, and still maintain your integrity.

What do you think? Do you have a list of people you only buy from?  Do you have “gurus” you completely avoid now?

Hey Willie,

This post is a couple years old ~ I'm not sure Mario's prices are as cheap now. :)

Cheers Jackie, I really think is time we got weary of these self proclaimed gurus and focus more on reality. I am going straight on to Google "Mario Xiao " . Thanks.

I know when I first started doing internet marketing, the hardest part was weeding through the junk to get to the good information. I lost a lot of money in my search to find the good information and still do from time to time. However, my "buyer-be-ware" radar is getting better.

Hello Jackie,

I am already use one of your recommendation, that was Mario Xiao, and I am really satisfied with his works! Absolutely save my money and spend a lot of time by research a graphic designers on the net.
