Is Your Perspective Keeping You From Making Money Online?

I’ve been learning a lot about perspective recently in my life.  It seems to be coming up in a lot of different ways in a lot of different areas. Some has been around parenting, but today I got a nice kick in the butt about what a difference perspective can make when thinking about making money online.

I’ve pretty much always looked at the big picture. I need this much money to cover my bills every month. I need this much money to take that big vacation this summer. I’m going to need this much money to send Hanna to college ~ ha ha.

When you are looking at how much total money you need it taints the way you look at income streams. I may have a niche site making a dollar or two a day. When I need to pay my mortgage a dollar a day doesn’t seem like quite “enough”.

It’s easy to get discouraged and quit, whether it’s internet marketing or the current internet marketing strategy I am using, and move on to something else that will build that big fat income stream I need to pay my mortgage.

This is where the change in perspective came in today. And it’s a biggie~ in fact, I have never heard anyone else online say it. The presentation was quite direct, and straight forward, which didn’t bother me much because I’m pretty much the same way.

I’ll send you to the site I found and you can read through it for yourself. It’s worth it I assure you.  I’m going to give you the basic perspective change I got from the site, and how it’s changed the way I am going to do internet marketing.

WHAT IF . . .

I took each of my monthly expenses and figured out how much each expense cost me each day?

WOW, not one of my expenses is more than 20 dollars a day.  A bunch of them are less than a dollar a day!

That gives me a little bit different perspective on those dollar a day income streams huh? Now I can look at them as covering a specific expense ~ like my trash pickup ~ it’s only .67 a day. So that mini site that is only making a dollar or two a day now instead of being “not enough” is paying my trash bill every month!!

That’s great! The trash bill DOES need to be paid every month.

What if I have a couple mini sites that are making 10 dollars a day. Well I could label them “mortgage” and know that those two income streams are covering my mortgage for the month.

Suddenly building new streams of income seems smart and not as difficult as it used to. I know exactly what I’m working toward and how to get there.

So this income stream is only making $1.50 a day and I need $3.00 a day to cover our cell phone bills. GREAT, no problem just create a new mini site that’s making $1.50 a day or heck make 3 more that only make .50 cents a day!! There ya go. My cell phone bill is now covered every month.

This works for  leisure items as well.

Planning a vacation this summer? I know I’d like to take one ~ maybe Disney with Hanna? What’s it gonna cost? I don’t know let’s just say $3000. Let’s say I want to take this vacation in June which is 5 months away.  That’s 150 days.  That’s 20 dollars a day.

So now I need to create income streams to add up to 20 dollars a day. Whether that’s 20 mini sites that make 1 dollar a day, or I find some good keywords and get a couple streams making 10 dollars a day.  I know exactly what I need, exactly where I am at. I KNOW what I need to do. All that’s left is DOING it!!

This really puts a NEW perspective on those little “not enough” income streams huh? It sure did for me.

Well here’s the site I learned all this on today. It’s not an affiliate link, he offers not only this change in perspective, but a plan to make it happen.

You may or may not like his plan ~ but remember ~ this can happen with ANY strategy. Whether you are building squidoo lenses, niche sites, niche blogs ~ whatever you are doing you just need to do it enough to cover the daily spend of your household.

All right now, I’m gonna go build another income stream to cover my internet connection. $1.70. :D

Hey Jackie,

What a perfect way to look at internt income goal setting. This method allows anyone to chunk their goals in a very manageable and attainable way.

Cheers!

Hi Jackie,

Awesome way to look at things! I absolutely agree "When you are looking at how much total money you need it taints the way you look at income streams." Breaking it down by day makes increasing those income streams more feasibly.

Way to go, Jackie!

Jackie - Your post hits straight on! This is exactly what keeps me motivated - the small parts that adds up to the big cha-ching. I started out by listing my goals on paper - 1st goal=let's pay for the house - OK that will be around $40 per day. 2nd goal=add in the utilities... and so on. That to me (the old accountant -aka bean counter) was much more motivational because then I can see real results that compound as time goes by. Unfortunately, many people get too mesmerized by the so-called gurus that say "I make $400,000 per year...". That's all well and fine, but when it takes a while to start seeing results, having such a BIG target to hit can be quite depressing when you're seeing $40 per day starting out.

Keep up the good work!!
