March Madness Internet Marketing Style ~ Are You Game?
I’m not a basketball fan, but I couldn’t help myself. The month of March is almost upon us. Which means the first quarter of the business year is almost over. What do you have to show for it? Are you staying on track with the goals you set for yourself and your business this year?
I was recently reading a post by Mark over at The Keyword Academy, about taking action in fact, it was this quote that really got me thinking about a little March Madness.
Reckless action trumps perfect understanding in this business – every time
It got me thinking about how so many people ~ myself included analyze, analyze and over analzye this whole thing to a point where we become paralyzed my our analysis and fail to take action. I was thinking I need to do something to give myself a kick in the pants, something to get things stirred up, a way to take reckless action and start moving forward, and so was born . . .
The March Madness Challenge:
So what is the March Madness challenge? It’s very similar to the challenge Mark gave himself. For me it is two parts. Site creation and site promotion. This is my plan ~ if this is just too overwhelming for you don’t worry I’ll give you some other options at the end. You can do this!
Site Creation:
5 Niche Sites in 5 Days
Over the weekend I’m going to do some quick keyword research. I’m going to find 5 related keywords. (some of these sites will be monetized with adsense, and some will have other purposes, but I’ll need keywords no matter what). I will use the methods outlined in Keyword Research Revealed to complete this portion of the challenge.
Then the creation portion of this challenge will involve a few steps ~ it’s going to be a busy week. I may give up some TV time, and throw in more crockpot meals so I don’t have to cook dinner ~ but I won’t give up my Wii Fit time don’t worry!!
1. choose a domain name – based on my keywords
2. install wordpress
3. optimize wordpress
4. create content and get it on the site ~ using the keywords I found I will create 1 post of content focused on each keyword. The sites will probably be 5 posts each.
Niche Site Promotion
The second half of the challenge is going to be niche site promotion. It’s all fine and good to bust your butt to get 5 sites up in 5 days but if they never get traffic it doesn’t do you much good now does it.
I sometimes find myself bored after the building part of the challenge, so this is where my challenge is really going to be in the last 3 weeks of the month. There will be a few steps in this part too.
1. 1 article every day goes out through Unique Article Wizard for each site (so that’s 15 articles total for each site by the end of the month, I will also rotate keywords I use in anchor text to target each page’s keywords equally through the month) I will only have each article being submitted to 10 sites a day by UAW to keep the submission pace steady and hopefully slow enough to avoid the sandbox.
2. RSS submission and bookmarking for each site and sites from step 3
3. Create at least one free content site for each site per day. (this is easy enough to do using the unique versions of your article created by unique article wizard. (yes, it is absolutely my new favorite tool)
So this means I will be creating 5 articles to submit each day, as well as building 5 small free content sites each day. Wow that sounds like a lot ~ well it is a lot. But that’s ok. It wouldn’t be a challenge if it didn’t challenge me right?
So what do I expect?
I’m keeping my expectations in check on this one. I don’t really know what to expect. Things could go a couple ways. I could get my sites sandboxed by adding so many new links so quickly ~ but if this happens they will come out in a few months and be fine. I could end up with sites doing quite well in the search engines and making scads more money by the end of the month ~ and that would be great too.
This project really isn’t about the results for me, it’s about the action. I have faith that taking these actions will produce results so I just have to do it, and we’ll see what happens.
Take RECKLESS ACTION ~ get your nose out of whatever book you are reading. Stop trying to figure out every nuance of every tool you are using and just get busy!!!
So has the plan I laid out got your “yeah buts” all riled up. Is there just NOOOO way you can do that??
Don’t worry I’ve got a plan for you too. For all of your yeah buts there is an answer.
Possible Yeah buts ~
I’m not good at wordpress
I don’t have hosting ~ you should get it, cheap hosting is less than 8 bucks a month and the biggest investment you can make in yourself and your business.
I have a full time job
I have kids
I don’t have the time
I don’t know what I’m doing
I’m new
OK ~ does that about cover it? Yeah, I’ve been there done that NOW push it aside and DO IT ANYWAY!!
If you don’t have hosting and you can’t do wordpress blogs you have a couple options.
1. Blogger.com
You can use blogger.com. It’s definitely not my first choice, because you don’t own your work, but at least you have a way to get moving.
2. Squidoo.com
You can always do this challenge with lenses and do the rest of the promotion part for your lenses.
If there’s a will there’s a way. Do you have the will to jumpstart your business, to take some reckless action and just see what happens when you stop reading and start doing??
I sure do. I hope you will come along with me for this month of March Madness!
Need some help getting started? Wherever you are I can probably help. Whether it's Squidoo, niche blogs, or an authority blog, one on one help is available!!

Hi Jackie – I’m taking coaching from Mark and beginning my program tomorrow, so I am up for the challenge as well! I’m looking forward to seeing how your progress is by the end of the month.
Good luck!
Jerri
good luck in the challenge. i guess i have to make my own challenge too.
That’s a pretty ambitious challenge. But I have to agree, action trumps inaction in just about every area of internet marketing.
I guess that goes for just about any business though, now that I think about it.
Mark at the keyword academy posts some great stuff.
