Last month I spent a lot of time talking about research research research. I think research is important, AND I want to talk to you today about something I learned through experience just this week.

Since 2005 I’ve had an idea for a website. I wanted to start a website that would offer women information and resources about Natural Pregnancy and Childbirth. Back then I didn’t really know about building websites and all that stuff, and then it got pushed to the back burner while I experimented with “making money online”. It didn’t really occur to me that could be a way to make money.

Then I joined Wealthy Affiliate and learned a lot about research. While I was following the steps I outlined here on this blog for research one of the niche topics I researched was natural pregnancy and childbirth. It all started to come back to me, the desire I had to build that website.

My research showed me it should be a pretty profitable niche as well.

Then I came across Lee McIntyre and Standing Start Profits and it was drilled into my head again about GIVING to your readers and subscribers and making the relationship number one. That felt soooo good to me. It’s the way I believe in doing everything else in life, why wouldn’t making money online be the same. (There is a lot of information that conflicts with this thinking ~ but I wholeheartedly believe it is true)

It was then that my idea really started taking shape. I would start a blog ~ my favorite and the easiest content management, search engine loved platform there is. I would build it, give away great content, make useful viral reports to give away, eventually write a book and it would be great.

Here’s the FUN PART

I actually DID IT!!! I didn’t hem and haw, make up excuses, get slammed by road blocks I put the site up! Yes, my natural pregnancy and childbirth site was born.

The more I did, the more excited I got. I shared my news with some friends at Myspace, some Yahoo groups I participate in and over at CafeMom.com and

Here’s the REALLY FUN PART

My numbers started rising and rising and rising. The first day the site was up I got 8 hits. The second day 29. The fourth day the site was up 69. The sixth day ~ 127 hits. The hits are fun to watch but what’s even bigger than the hits is the response I’ve gotten from everyone.

I asked for birth stories from people and I got a flood of responses. I asked for doulas and midwives who would be willing to answer questions for the ask a doula and midwife sections, I had a flurry of people wanting to do that as well. I had businesses offering me affiliate deals as well as JV deals. It was amazing!!! Everyone loved the site and wanted to share.

I saw the potential here and realized this was so much more than a blog. It was turning into a global community of women supporting and empowering one another. I added a forum today and have had a steady flow of sign ups so far.

What’s really crazy is this ~ I’ve gotten so many messages from people thanking me for the WORK I’m doing. WORK? This is my FUN. Yes, I spend a lot of time on the project, but I don’t consider it work at all. I’ve heard people say that before but never really understood until now. I just can’t believe this is my life right now.

I have thought of a number of ways to monetize not only the blog, but the forums as well, so I do not have to charge my readers/members and I will still make a good profit. In fact I feel like this is going to be the idea that finally moves me into the internet “lifestyle” I’ve been chasing.

And it’s all about something I LOVE!

So here’s what I’ve learned and gleaned this week, and it really will only be a week tomorrow that I opened the site. Research is important ~ However ~ research on a topic you have GREAT PASSION about will only make it that much easier.

I’ve done projects based soley on research, and yes I’ve made money from them, the difference is this ~ the struggle, the effort ~ it was a daily grind to get online and do it consistently every single day. This project ~ I wake up looking forward to getting to work.

The second huge thing is this: people can feel your passion, even online, through an email, a post on a forum anywhere. If you are FEELING IT other people will too. When people feel YOUR passion, they get passionate too and want to help you.

It is my strong feeling that there is really NOTHING that you are passionate about that doesn’t have other people just as passionate out there in the world. Passion is contagious, and when you are passionate it is easy to talk about, tell other people about, generally get your message out in a very authentic and real way. People connect with that and you will notice it is EASY to get your project off the ground and flying high.

So that’s what’s been up with me this week, remember none of this excitement could have ever happened if I hadn’t TAKEN ACTION. Get excited and DO IT!!!
