PLR Basics ~ An Easy Way to Create Content

So far this month I’ve covered 8 different ideas for content creation.  They have all been things you can write about on your blog (depending on the type and topic of your blog of course). Today and Friday I’m going to talk about a content creation method that can be helpful to those “non writers” out there ~ as well as the people who just don’t have enough time to write all this content.

Today we’re going to talk about PLR.

What is PLR?

PLR stands for Private Label Rights. What this means is someone writes an article. You buy the article and then you have the right to change it, modify it, put your name on it and call it your own.

What are the benefits of PLR?

If you’re not a “writer” the benefits of PLR can be huge. For many people it’s easier to start with something and then edit it than to start from nothing. This is where PLR comes in. PLR allows you to start with a complete article. Yes, other people will have access to this same article, so you want to change the title ~ you want to change the keywords targeted, and you want to add a little bit of yourself to the article, which means you could add a story or a paragraph, or change the way things are said so it sounds more like you. The point is you have a starting point ~ you don’t have to come up with the 500 words, you just have to change them up a little bit.

This can be great if you’re feeling stuck, or overwhelmed or just don’t have the time to do all the writing.

Where can I use PLR?

You can use plr anywhere you want.  I would steer clear of using any kind of PLR for your articles at EZA ~ they will not accept them and seriously frown on PLR as of late. However, if you get a PLR article that’s tips on your topic you could easily break it down into 3 text modules and use it to create a squidoo lens. You could break it down and use 1 tip for 3 different free ad blogs.

You can buy a pack of PLR say maybe 5 or 10 articles and put them together to create a free report to give away to start building your list.

Just about anything about creating content that freaks you out or gets you overwhelmed can be overcome by using PLR in one form or another.

So why doesn’t everyone use PLR?

Here’s the deal. There are a LOT of shady PLR sellers out there. Like anything else online you have to make sure you are going to a reputable seller of PLR. There is PLR available, that has been out there since I started internet marketing years and years ago. A lot of people have tried PLR, didn’t change it or add to it, just slapped it up as is and had no luck so they no longer think PLR can be beneficial to their business.

This is completely false. When you buy from a reputable seller you can get excellent PLR. When you make that PLR your own you can create excellent content. While PLR is a shortcut for content creation you can’t just throw it up as is, you really want to make it yours.

How do you find great PLR? Here’s some tips from my colleague Nicole Dean.

Here’s the basics of the video for my non video folks:

Questions to ask yourself before you buy PLR

1.  What’s the person’s reputation? Have they been around or is it a fly by night site? Is there contact information on the site? Someone you can talk to if you need to? Make sure there’s a person behind the site you’re going to buy from.

2.  How many others will have access to the same PLR you’re getting? Limited access is always better. EasyPLR.com strictly limits sales of packs ~ do NOT sell any more packs after they are sold out.

3. What topics are you getting? Many sites send you random topics that aren’t related to anything you’re doing. Make sure you can shop only for what you need/want.

4. What quality article are you getting? Are they pure fluff? Is there original information? Is the English good?EasyPLR is written by professional writers and edited by a professional editor as well.

5. Are you locked into a membership or can you just get what you want when you want it?

6. Do you get extras with your PLR? EasyPLR provides bonuses with every order. Possibly options for monetization or more information.

Nicole’s site Easyplr.com is one of the few places I trust to get great PLR. She always provides top notch articles for a great price.  She always has PLR on a variety of topics so it’s perfect for niche blogs, and there are always more article packs coming out.

If you run a blog that could benefit from food related PLR ~ like recipes and articles about food check out YummyPLR.com. They have excellent PLR as well ~ also one of Nicole’s companies. I have used the food PLR on a few of my food sites, and the quality is excellent and I just loved it.

If you’re not at all familiar with PLR or want to try it to see what it’s all about. I suggest you do two things.

1. Sign up for Nicole’s free course on PLR. It will give you a good understanding of PLR.(there’s a link at the bottom of the page you have to click to get there)

2. Sign up for the free PLR Nicole offers on her site. This gives you a chance to see the quality PLR she offeres, it also gives you a chance to see how you might be able to work with it on your site and in your business.

Again you can do both of those things at Easyplr.com. On Friday we’re going to talk about different ways you can use PLR in your business to help with content creation. I’m also going to have a FREE report for you! So make sure you keep an eye out for that on Friday.

If you have any questions about PLR please ask in the comment section. I’m working on doing an interview with Nicole so if you have questions you’d like to ask her please let me know and I’ll be glad to do that.

Hi Jackie,

Thank you for the PLR Basics and this what i need for me as a newbie to learn and apply.
I will check the EasyPLR by Nicole and put to action cause as you said before do first and amend later

Jackie, I just want to add my 2 cents her. I also find EasyPLR excellent as well as Yummy PLR. I had to quit Yummy PLR for financial reasons and I'm having serious withdrawal problems!:*

It is actually because Yummy PLR is so good, I can use every thing and have enough now to last a while. Once they are finished I'm sure to join again.

Dennis makes a good point. Many times it is the case that you can resell PLR ~ but that is not the case with any of the PLR at easyplr.com. Here are the rules of use for that site ~ it's a good idea to check the rules wherever you think about purchasing PLR.

Oh very nice, that right there puts them above most sellers. :)

Jackie's tips are spot on, especially about being careful. Remember one thing though folks, even if the original creator/seller limits how many he/she sells, most if not all packages also come with resale rights, so buyers are now free to sell as is also.

Awesome post. There are many that don't know what PLR is so they are not taking advantage of it yet. I have a site that helps people with PLR too!

Yeah that's huge. You don't want PLR that's been out there for years and everyone and his brother has it. At this point there's won't be much you can do to make it anywhere near unique. :) Nicole is adamant about setting a limit on how many she sells and doesn't change it once it's set.

Jackie, really interesting piece. I've been toying with the idea of plr for a while and even asked for reccomendations in the warrior forum but got nothing of value back. One of my major concerns was exactly what you brought up, how many other people have got hold of this material. I will follow up on your recommendation, so thanks again.

It depends what kind of blog you're doing if you are doing a niche blog I would not recommend it. Your blog needs to be completely unique and targeted. If you have an ongoing authority blog like this one you could do it once in a while ~ but I would probably use it as a conversation starter ~ I read this today "clip" and this is what I think and not just as the whole post.

Jackie, what do you think of using clipmarks to clip snippets and post them directly to your blog? Although the source is credited, I'm not sure if this is ethical.

Thanks Jackie - I have used PLR before too - for writer's block mainly. I usually buy the article pack - read through them and boom, I'm off and writing an original article from the PLR info I've read or I get an idea for a completely new article and off I go. Then I think to myself "wow, I shouldn't have wasted my money" but in reality, the PLR helped to get my creative juices flowing - so it's not really a waste. Whatever works!!

Laura :O)

Hey Russell,

If you scroll down to the bottom of the site the first link at the bottom says "contact and frequently asked questions" click that and you'll find the contact information. The email address you can send your request is there.

That's so funny I just heard today she takes topic requests and I thought of you. I'll find out how you can request a topic and let you know. :)

Jackie

I have been getting PLR for ages now and I never really knew what to do with it. So, thanks for writing about this. I think it will really help!

Thanks!

Cindy

Hi Jackie
Thanks for this Post which is very helpful.
Only thing is, I want to find a way to enquire about articles on topics not appearing on her site. But can't find a way to do this - not even an email address to use.
Can you help me on this?
Thanks
RUSSELL

I got a ton of plr material from one site and made a couple lenses and blogs with them. Great Post
Thanks

And your non-video folk love you for giving a summary of the video!

How I wish other people would do that. Despite the fact that video is being touted as the new "must have" content on your web site, there are always going to be people that can't access it - for whatever reason.

Bless you, gal!

Awesome post Jackie - I think this will definitely help my "writer's block." Thanks again for great info!!

Jane (MoneyMom)

Hi Jackie
Been following you for a bit now and this is my first post here...I love the way you treat us...now to stay on topic I have used Yummy PLR very good stuff...however I found a prgm for $7 that will pull blocks of keyword related content from the top 10...100...200-900 or even all the sites if you wanted and then I found a spinner that actually makes great work of what you put into it...oh yeah and it's fre.e...I am not an affiliate for either program just wanted to try to give you something useful as you share so much so freely....oh I almost forgot to mention I bought MNF and hostgator through your links...tks for being you...and if ya want to more about those prgms...feel free to email me
Thanks
Tom

Jackie Rocks

I'd like to know more about the programs you're talking about Tom.

I write PLR, so I'm biased. But I also use other people's PLR -- including Nicole's packages. I can second your recommendation from personal experience.

Even though I write, there's only so much I can write in a day before my brain says 'enough already'! So good quality PLR -- meaning that the research behind it is solid so the facts are accurate -- saves me research time.

By using PLR, I can set up affiliate niche sites & Squidoo lenses much faster than if I had to do all of the research myself. It's faster to edit than to create content, especially if it's a niche I'm not familar with.

Thanks for talking about the positive side of PLR and dispelling some of those myths!

I use PLR for a lot of my OWM lenses, especially if it's a topic I don't personally have a lot of experience with. It gets difficult trying to write enough original information to post in so many places that is all basically on the same topic - so PLR really helps me with my lenses and with writing articles for backlinks. I never use it 'straight up' - but I can rewrite one PLR article 4 or 5 times and post it on various advertising blogs to get my backlinks. It's a huge time saver.

Jackie, another great post. I did a few PLRs when I started out, because I had writers block. But as I moved forward I found I could write about anything. So if you are just getting started and have writers block like me at the start, PLRs will help. But you will probably find out later you do not need PLRs.

Everyone has a story.
