As you know I’ve been working on some goals related to building my list. I’ve added the lightbox from Get response ~ which is totally uncustomizable (and pretty ugly) ~ it’s also given some readers problems of popping up every time they stop by the site, which is not what I want.
I have been actively seeking a solution to this problem.
Here’s what I WANTED. I wanted a gorgeous lightbox, that I could customize, I could easily add my own content, maybe a checklist to. I wanted it to be super easy ~ like a plugin or something ~ upload and go, no messing in the code. I wanted it to work the way I wanted it to work ~ show up once, and not again.
Well, last week I found it. Not even launched yet, but I found it.
Friday I got my hands on it and over the weekend I loaded it on my blog.
I immediately saw my subscriber numbers DOUBLE!! Which is really amazing because my numbers had already jumped greatly just with the ugly get response lightbox. So needless to say I was pretty excited!
So what did I find?
PopUp Domination is a plugin for wordpress. You simply upload it (just like any other plugin) and then go through the 5 simple steps to set it up.
Step 1. Look and Feel
Choose the color options you want to use to best match your site. You can pick from a lot of different colors for the box itself, but also the color of the button. You also choose the template you want to use in this step.
There are currently 4 template options. They are all awesome and one will probably just “speak” to you. You’ll know which one you like best. Choose the number and on to the next step.
Step 2. Email code
This step is where you insert your email code. All you have to do is go grab the html code from a box you’ve created for your site at your autoresponder. Then just paste the code in the box provided. Make sure you grab the html and not the script code.
Step 3. Template Fields
This is where you start filling in your content for the opt in box. You choose the headline, the words to use your name/email field, what you want to say on the submit button.
It’s super easy, and the developer has even outlined the typical length that each of these things should be.
(after each step you can hit the “preview” button and see what the changes you’ve made look like.)
Step 4: List points
This is where you add your bullet point content (if the template you’ve chosen has them). Pull your biggest reasons/benefits for people to opt in (think what’s in it for them) and just add them right there.
Step 5. Schedule
Here’s where you tell the lightbox how often to pop up. You schedule by the day. So if you want it to pop up every 7 days you just put 7 in the box. It’s completely up to you ~ and another thing you can test and see what works best for your site and your audience.
That’s it. Preview, and then turn it on. You’re all set.
Here’s a quick video of my PopUp Domination review. You can see just how easy it is as I create a popup box for my Squidoo blog.
This process literally took me 5 minutes to create the new lightbox for this site. Opt ins are on the rise already. If you aren’t using any kind of lightbox on your site then your opt in increase could be huge. Testimonials are coming in for over 304% increase in opt ins ~ that’s huge. That kind of increase in your list can mean infinitely more connections and lead to a huge increase in sales.
Who is Popup Domination for?
If you have a blog, and you are building a list ~ you need popup domination.
If you have niche sites ~ you should be building lists and popup domination would be perfect!
Who is it not for?
If you’re building micro niche sites I don’t think you will need popup domination.
If you’re building lenses you do not need popup domination.
With that said, it’s time to take your list to the next level. Grab your copy of PopUp Domination. Go ahead and head over now ~ there’s a great video on the sales page. Take a couple minutes and watch it and then get the plugin. It’s totally worth it, and will pay for itself.
If you purchase through my link (yes, that’s an affiliate link in there) I will be glad to help you if you run into any problems getting your light box up and running.

Hi Jackie, thought I’d pop in here on this one.
I’ve been working on a new concept and started the website and incorporating the ‘best of the best’ I know of and finally wound back up with MailChimp.com. I’m not sure if I care for it at the bottom of the page, but I’m still playing around.
Another factor to consider with popups is how they’d do not only on laptops and tablets, but on cell phones. More and more people are making their sites ‘dual duty’ so they show up well on much small devices. Popups could be a problem.
I am so glad I found this site. I am an aspiring Internet Marketing Mommy…this is great.
I have also had issues with building my list and actually I have sort of given up on it. I am focusing more on affiliate marketing in micro niche’s right now – but I should be building a list.
I look foward to your insight on this subject.

Jackie-
I bought PD last week and I am getting complaints that for some readers there is no way for them to X out if they do not want to sign up. Basically it is forcing them to enter an email if they want to view my site. Because of this I have had to disable it.
I have tried to get support from PD but they have not responded.
any ideas?

Hi Jen,
Michael has been really good about customer service ~ Did you send your issue through his contact box on incomediary.com? That might work. If you are on twitter you might send him a tweet ~ he’s responded pretty quickly to tweets. He is @michaeldunlop
Hope that helps.
Thanks Jackie-
James- I guy who is handling support finally got back to me.
I think I have discovered the problem, though.
The pop up may be coming in under the toolbar(s) of readers who are viewing my site on laptops. So the X is hidden, unless they close their toolbars.

Until now I have not done enough on list building as I’ve been paying way too much attention to my other sites. I think after October I’ll try to start listing building on my blog. Thanks, David

This looks like a great plugin with many customizations. I run a few travel based websites, I wonder how it would work.
Do you think this plugin is geared more towards the SEO/Online marketing crowd or for any niche?
I think it’s perfect for anyone building a list. I’m getting ready to put it on my recipe sites.
Let me know how it goes for you!
This seems like a great plugin. My only concern is whether or not use of a popup plugin would violate Google’s AdSense policy. They’re notorious for being purposely vague and heavy-handed.

It always amazes me at how things can seem so difficult when you try and do them by yourself, yet they look absolutely ridiculous when you see someone else do it. Blog posts like this really provide value.
Now I just need to figure out which autoresponder would work best!

Would you recommend building a list for real niche-type markets such as selling Halloween costumes? I am trying to figure out whether or not it would work in this environment, and if it does, how would I implement it?

I’m not sure how beneficial a list is going to be in such a seasonal niche as halloween costumes. There are super nichey things I would say it would be good to do it in, but this is so seasonal, I probably wouldn’t.
I’d be glad to hear what other people think about this…
OK Kristi, blame Jackie as she said, “I’d be glad to hear what other people think about this…” LOL
My entire adult life, if not a wee bit before that, has been spent in direct sales; my response is simple…..
A B S O L U T E L Y!! Two lists in fact.
1. Always always, ALWAYS, keep a customer list of those that purchased, with as much information as you can without annoying the customer.
Who will they buy from next year, and the year after, and the……….you get the gist.
(You probably already knew #1; you’d be shocked at how ,any people don’t.)
2. That said, I assume though, you’re referring to a prospect list (those that haven’t purchased yet).
As Jackie hinted, this will be tricky at best. I see 2 options, follow me here…..
1. Expansion: 9 x outa 10 Halloween costumes = Children, which = other holidays/special days, which could easily mean expanding your product line.
This is a landing (squeeze) page you could promote year-round.
2. Just Halloween: This is a judgment call, but here’s how I might do it…
Start promoting the landing page November 1st. They most likely won’t be in the mood to purchase, so promoting the site may be a waste, but they will think about being reminded when the time comes.
This make sense?

A pop-up sign-up box is something I can’t offer on my blogs as I write sponsored posts. The one thing they all insist on is that my blogs don’t have any pop-ups at all.

Hey Dean,
That makes sense from their point of view I suppose. Are you building a list at all? At least an opt in box in the sidebar or something?
Hi Jackie,
It looks great, thanks for this post. What I like is how easy can be set up and customized. Great stuff!

Not a bad launch for this product, it’s everywhere and fast.
I just resigned with Aweber. I’ll have to see what they offer first, but I may be back to purchase.

This one is MUCH more attractive than the old one. If I wasn’t already a member, I’d sign up right now!
And again, you’re just in time – like I’ve mentioned, setting up auto-responders is next month’s big task, so this will def come in handy.

I remember this post Jackie. Great advice! I am thrilled when I see money trickling in. Certainly not enough to give up my offline business Yet! But I keep moving forward.
If there was a time when I felt like giving up it was last week when I lost all my sites. I had to ask myself how much do I want this? because I was pretty much going to have to start from scratch.
I wanted to get up the sites that had been making money and all the ones for this Halloween. I’m doing it.
Support from others is one of the biggest things to have to keep one moving. You have been fantastic, thank you!
