Quick Easy Steps to Use Wet Paint for Link Building

Whether you are promoting a Squidoo lens, a niche site or even an authority site, search engine traffic all comes down to building links. It’s also about building links from multiple platforms. You don’t just want a million blogger blog links.
Today we’re going to talk about another free platform you can use to create content and build links to your site. It’s called “Wet Paint”. Silly name, but a pretty cool site. Make sure you read all the way to the bottom, because there’s a nice gift down there for you!
How to get started at Wet Paint.
You will need to go to wet paint and sign up for an account, but it’s a no cost site, so no worries there.
Once you have an account you just have to log in and create your page. At Wet Paint your pages are called Wikis, like at Squidoo they are called Lenses. This is just a fancy word for an informative page.
How do I create content at Wet Paint?
Wet Paint is a very easy site to create content on, it is similar to Google Knol in that there are not a bunch of different modules or fancy things you have to add. You can basically just copy an article you’ve written and paste it in the text editor.
If you are repurposing an article you’ve used elsewhere, you’ll want to change the first paragraph, and maybe a few sentences throughout, write a new conclusion, but all in all it’s a quick copy/paste type of site.
Don’t forget to add your anchor text keywords links back to your lenses. That’s what makes these so worth doing, the extra push you get for your links in the search engine results page.
Can you show me an example?
Sometimes it’s easier to “get it” when you can see it. So here’s a page I created about how to live off grid at Wet Paint. It links to a website instead of a lens, but if you are linking to Squidoo or anywhere else, you do it the same way.
All I had to do was come up with the “windpowerelectricity” part of the url, and of course try to use some keywords in there! Then I just added the content and some links and hit save.
Now this page is out there working for me.
The other nice thing about Wet Paint is you can add pages to your site. In fact, if you look at the top left corner of the link I just gave you will see Home and then under it is another link. That’s another page I created on this topic.
There is a link to a squidoo lens on that page, as well as some other links I gave some people in a link exchange. It was nice because I could add a page and their links didn’t detract from my links at all.
This could also work if you did a few lenses or other sites related to your topic. You can create multiple pages all connected to work for you.
This is a quick and easy way to create some links back to your lens. So go ahead and test it out this week and see how it goes.

Jackie, how do you check your links? I use Yahoo site explorer but I don’t know if there is a better way. I get confused with the whole link building process. I write about 10 different articles for my lenses, plus I add them to 5 social bookmarking sites. Still, when I check site explorer, I see that for 10-12 links that should definitely show up, I maybe have 4.
This is the part where i think links are getting de-indexed. I don’t use dup content, I rewrite my articles. So I’m curious, how do you check your links?

I don’t.
I check where my sites/lenses are ranking and if they aren’t where I want them I build more links. It doesn’t matter how many links you have (number wise) if your site isn’t where you want it.

I did a few posts at wet paint to get links to another blog I have. I guess the key is to keep posting there, so the links don’t get deindexed? Thanks for the free ebook too

Wet Paint is definitely a great place to get some quality links. There’s a lot of other great web 2.0 sites as well and it’s a good idea to diversify your links. You can also bookmark your pages to help them get indexed faster. Thanks for the post!

How many times did you use it? And did the links come back? Many many sites/pages will bounce around and get deindexed, but they quite frequently come back. I just wonder if it’s something you did once or twice or did you use it a lot?

I have used wetpaint in past, the links get deindexed quickly. But no doubt its good for getting your website cached. Nice post!

Thanks for the great content and information. I am always browsing the internet looking for good content to get ideas for my easy home based business opportunity blogs and articles. You have some real good content here so just keep on doing what you are doing as good stuff like this is always hard to find.
Never thought of using wetpaint like that, I tend to get too focused on follow links sometimes but you are right, nofollow links are not completely useless, they still have some use.
Your right about the “no follow” links, sites like Wet Paint can generate a nice flow of traffic to your site or blog as long as your wikis are interesting.
