Say Hi to the Newest Giant Squid!
Well I opened my email today and low and behold there was an email from squidoo. This isn’t unusual. I get emails daily from squidoo, telling me I have comments or someone sending me a message, but this email was special.
It was from GiantSquid headquarters! I am one of the new GiantSquids this month. Woo hoo.
I must admit last month I had hoped to become a giant squid, but no go. So I went back through my lenses, revamped, added, cleaned up and of course built some new lenses this month.
I was a bit surprised, since with all this niche website building I forgot to send the email about becoming giant squid, but they found me anyway!
Being a giant squid has quite a few perks at Squidoo. You get a nice giant squid badge on your lenses, you also get a special template that you set up to quickly build new lenses and many other things.
What do you have to do to become a giant over at squidoo? It’s simple really, build at least 50 great quality lenses! Does that seem a little overwhelming? Don’t let it! It is a very doable task if you just break it down into bite sized chunks.
Let’s say you don’t have ANY lenses yet. (aaaw, say it isn’t so!) Go ahead and head over to squidoo and get started, sign up for your account. It’s free.
Once you have an account take a minute to look around. There are some great lenses about HOW TO squidoo. You can learn most anything you want to know there. However, if you want to speed things up you can get a great little ebook called Squidoo Profit Secrets. It will tell you everything you need to know about setting up your lenses and how to make some money in the process.
Now let’s break things down. No one’s saying you have to become a giant squid this month, or even next. So set a goal that you feel is reasonable. Keep in mind creating a nice squidoo lens can take between 15 minutes and 3 hours. It depends on a few things. Your level of expertise on the subject. How much of a story you have to tell. How many modules you want to use. How quickly you can write.
You can plan on one a day, which is what I did for a month to get me up to the 50 lens mark. (it only took me about an hour a day). Or you could do one every other day. You could even do one a week and be there before a year’s time. It’s all about what all internet marketing is about, finding a strategy and being consistent!
So what are you going to write about? Anything you want! That’s the cool thing about squidoo. You can create a lens about any topic you want. You can write about things you like, or you can even use the keyword research tools you’ve been learning here to find keywords that will work great. (try to keep the competing pages below 30k). I have kept a list as I went of the keywords that fit the requirements (for me) to create a squidoo lens, and kept them in a spread sheet. That way whenever I’m at a loss for a topic I can just take a look and grab the next one in line.
