Hi Kristin,
I probably wouldn't consider a 200 dollar product high end. And generally it takes about 200 clicks to make one sale.

while the 24 hour cookie thing is kind of sucky ~ when people are looking for a specific product ~ and your lens is targeting a specific product you'll find they are pretty ready to buy and probably aren't going to spend more time thinking about it. When people are looking for a specific product they are at the end of the buying cycle. They are more likely to have their credit card in hand and ready to purchase.

ex. today I went to purchase Hanna's christmas present. I knew exactly what I wanted. I typed in the specific product and clicked add to cart. I had already done all the research. I've been to amazon about 20 times trying to figure out exactly what I wanted. I started by typing in doll house ~ to see what all was available. Then I looked at each of the options I thought looked good. Then once I'd made a decision and was ready to buy I put the exact dollhouse I wanted in the search box and bought it.

It all depends on where you get people in the buying process. If I'd hit a lens when I was searching for "dollhouse" I wouldn't have purchased then, because I was still researching. But if I hit a lens when I was looking for the specific dollhouse I would have because I had my credit card in hand, ready to purchase so it would get here in time for Christmas. this sounds like a whole blog post to me... I'll do that on Tuesday. :)

I know this post is old, but I just got it in my email today or yesterday - Anyway, I have two questions: Do you still review lenses? And also what do you think about Amazon's 24-hour cookie policy. I have five lenses up so far, but I have a website that sells a high-end Amazon product also. (High-end as in over $200). Anyway, one month I had 30 clicks (which is good for me) but no buys!

When you sell a high-end product, I'm sure you have a lot of people who may want to think about the purchase for a little while before buying - I feel like I lost some sales because of Amazon's stupid rule. (Big sigh . . .)

Oh, and by the way, I gave you a shout out on my blog, so if you have time, take a look.

you put it in your intro module, and then in your text modules. Have you grabbed the squidoo christmas cash blueprint? If not, you should ~ it outlines all this stuff (right hand sidebar ~ just add your name and email). Also check out the posts on the articles page of my other site: www.internetmarketingformommies.com/articles the top few sections are all about creating lenses. :)

you have to add the whole link to the html code to create a clickable link. Check out this post: http://internetmarketingformommies.com/how-to-get-html-from-amazon/ it talks about amazon, but you would just put your affiliate link in the code that's in big bold letters in the middle of the post.

Hi Jackie,

Great Post. Great explanation. I think a lot of people get involved with the Amazon program are looking at it to "short term". I was disappointed at first as I was getting a lot of clicks but not a lot of sales. But after 2 - 3 months my conversion rate really went up. Also, don't worry about selling lower priced items - this actually helps you out as it helps move you up to the higher commission rate. In essence, you get a 50% raise (from 4 - 6 percent) so you are right on, sell as many items as you can even if they are lower priced.

Thanks again - great post!

It seems I was not very clear ~ I've heard this from a few people. :(

To get the lens review go to www.SquidooChristmasCash.com scroll down toward the bottom. There's a paypal button for package #1 ~ that's the lens review package. Once I receive your payment I'll let you know I've received it and you can send me the url of your lenses you want me to review.

About getting the link ~ I'm not sure what you mean. You have to have an Amazon associates account to make the links at Amazon. (This is a different account than the one you have when you buy stuff from Amazon). You can use the modules within squidoo (check the A category under "all modules" to find the Amazon modules available) if you don't have an affiliate account with Amazon yet.

You can also look through this blog and at www.learnitsetpbystep.com/blog for more information about creating squidoo lenses ~ if you have specific questions about lens creation just ask and I'll try to do some blog posts to answer your questions.

Hi Jackie,
I got your email today about having you look at our lenses. I couldn't figure out where to send the request.
I am having a problem with the Squidoo or is it Amazon not allowing me to use the link. I created an acct on Amazon and pretended to go thru process of purchasing my item and could not locate an ASIM number for the item I created a lens for.

I basically got stuck there and tried to look at other lenses to figure out how they are done.

So any help you can provide that wouldn't cost me anything would be very helpful. I just discovered I will not be getting another paycheck until 10/12 so I need $ right away!
Thank you for any assistance.
Totally frustrated!
