Squidoo, Using Long Titles helps in Long Tailed Searches

What the heck does that mean?

What’s a squidoo and a long tailed search! Briefly Squidoo is a very powerful community. It is based on people making “lenses” otherwise known as webpages on topics they know and love. All the content is from users. Squidoo is great because you don’t have to know how to build a webpage or html or any other geeky computer stuff. It was set up so you just complete “modules” which are sections of your webpage. They also offer modules that will help you make money from your lenses including cafepress, amazon, netflix, all of which are already set up so you do not need an affiliate account or any other connection to these sites.

Squidoo gets indexed very quickly with search engines so making a lens about something you are doing is a great way to drive traffic to your website. I’ll get more into Squidoo later, but if you don’t want to wait you can take this amazing Squidoo Course called Squidoo Secrets. Bob will teach you everything you could possibly want to know about adding Squidoo to your marketing arsenal.

So what’s a long tailed search.

A long tailed search is when someone goes to a search engine and types in an inquiry that is more than 2 or 3 words. These type of searches are being used more frequently as people are trying to find exactly what they are looking for in the midst of so much information.

Your Squidoo title is the first thing they ask you for when you start designing your lens. So say you just had your pet spayed and are making a lens so others can learn all about the benefits of spaying and neutering. You could choose a title like Spay your Pets, or you could make a more keyword rich title like “Reduce the risk of cancer in your pet by having them spayed or neutered” Now you have many key words in there that the search engines will pick up and people will be able to find your lens.

Here’s an example of a business lens I finished. I was going to go with the chosen URL of Earn with My Power Mall, but decided to go with a much more keyword dense title.

Think about what keywords people might be using when looking for your lens and then try to incorporate them in your title.

Nice post. I think lenses are a fantastic tool to getting the word out about our products.

I am worried about the Google Slap to Squidoo back in July, but I still think that Squidoo is a valuable tool in the Internet Marketers arsenal.

I'm totally addicted to Squidoo and if you don't mind, I'd like to pimp my Squidoo Package: Ultimate Squidoo.

Thanks and good luck to us all!
