This Year’s Theme Is Consistency

Happy New Year

This year has been a good year for my business. I have almost tripled my monthly income and the movement toward my financial goals is getting quicker every month.

Most people set goals for the new year, I’m not a huge fan of goals. I think a lot of times the goals we set become the very thing that stand in our way. They become the obstacles to our success the excuses for not moving forward. Or maybe it’s just me and my all or nothing thinking. If I can’t make 10k a month right now then I just won’t do this at all.  Believe me, I’ve heard some pretty similar statements.

Now don’t get me wrong. I do believe you have to be moving toward something to be able to stay on track and course correct so you keep moving in the right direction. (whatever right means for you).

I do this by setting a theme for the year.  This has a lot to do with the law of attraction. Once I set a theme I don’t really think about it much again. However, the Universe has heard my plea to work on this area of my life and is more than obliging to bring me circumstances, events and people that will help “test” me in this area.

Last year my theme was “and”. I was working on moving past all or nothing thinking, and boy were there plenty of opportunities this year I tell ya!! Being able to look somewhere between all or nothing has seriously improved my business. Now instead of not doing anything because I can’t get it all done right now, I do something. All of these little somethings move me forward; and much faster than doing nothing becuase I can’t do it all!

This year my theme is consistency.

I know in this world of a million shiny things is it so easy to get distracted, and move off course from the path you are working. I know I’ve done it a million times.  What I also know, from watching people over these years online is that doing something consistently will bring you to your goals.  I’ve had a few of these lessons in my life this year. Some of them knocked me on my ass. Some of them cost me a lot of money. But there was all good learning involved.

What I have figured out, for myself, is a strategy of action I plan to take through the next year. My theme is to take action on this strategy consistently. Even if I only do one action step in a day, that’s movement and that’s consistent, 5 or 10 steps a day would be great, but as long as I’m doing SOMETHING every day, I will get where I’m going.

If you think it’s a good idea, but just don’t have a strategy or know where to get one, who to trust, or what to do here’s what I suggest.

Get yourself a copy of One Week Marketing.  PotPieGirl ~ the author ~ will walk you through using free methods to make money online.  The package includes 5 different books, the main guide, a Conversation with Nick. Nick is a beginning internet marketer, he went to PotPieGirl with a question, which turned into a conversation (via instant messenger) and now you get to listen in.  I’m sure Nick had questions that you have now! There is also a checklist, and some mind maps so you can get a clear picture of what you’re working towards.

One Week Markeitng  is a great plan to practice consistency with . It is a weekly marketing plan, each week you get to work on another topic. So you do some every day, and can move on to something else when you’ve finished the tasks each week.

This works quite well for those who have “shiny thing syndrome”, because it allows you to jump around from topic to topic. So if one day you are interested in blue colored widgets you can build a campaign around that. When interests switch to purple colored widgets you can start a campaign on that.

This method is all about consistency. Keep doing one campaign a week and you will be building quite a bit of virtual real estate and your income will increase in direct proportion to your consistency.

If you find yourself stuck, with questions not answered in the book, or you get stuck at some point you can stop by LearnItStepbyStep.com where you will be walked through the One Week Marketing ebook step by step. Each little thing is laid out and explained. You can ask questions and get over any humps you may encounter.

No matter what internet marketing strategy you choose I highly suggest you choose something and stick to it. It was when I decided to buckle down to a plan that I started seeing money coming in, and I think the same will hold true for you.

There are a million different ways to make money online, but if you are trying all of them at once I can gaurantee you won’t be making any money.

I’ll close with a quote PotPieGirl uses all the time, that I absolutely love, and has become my mantra over the last year.

If you’re willing to do for a year what others won’t, you can do for a lifetime what others CAN’T!!

Is this going to be your year?

Thanks so much for all the things you have turned me on to this year. I’m a stay at home dad and I really have enjoyed doing the squidoo lenses and the socialmarker tutorial you posted earlier was great.
