Using Free Ad Blogs for Building Links
Oct 21
What is a free ad blog?
A free ad blog is a blog someone has put up where they allow other people to post on the blog. Some have more rules than others, but the basic similarity is that you can put content on someone else’s blog.
What is the purpose of doing this?
The purpose of writing posts on a free ad blog is to get links pointing back to your lens helping it increase its search engine ranking.
How does it work?
It takes a few simple steps, then you’ll be ready to post.
1. Register. Look around on the blog for a register link. This will allow you to create an account on the blog so you can sign in and make your post. Some of the register links are more obvious than others, so look around. If you can’t find a register link, look around for a link that talks about creating an account, becoming a member or anything else that sounds like signing up.
2. Check your email. You will receive an email from the blog. It may have a confirmation link you have to click, it may have your username and password, but you will get an email, so look for it.
3. Sign in. Once you know your username and password (for some you will create those, for other sites they will create a password for you), you’ll need to log in to the site.
4. Create your post. Each site is different you will need to look for phrases related to creating or posting. It may be post an article, or post an ad, submit an article, submit an ad. Just look around for it on each site.
5. Write your post. Once you’ve clicked the create link you will be given a space to write in. It may be a text editor, with the little icons at teh top, it may be just a space you type in. Most of these are wordpress blogs so you will have a text editor where you can highlight the words you want to be your link and then click the anchor icon at the top of the editor to add your url for the link. (which will be your squidoo lens)
What Do I write?
I suggest you keep these posts longer than 150 words, and relevant to your topic. Do NOT put your keywords in the title of these posts ~ you do NOT want them to rank higher than your lens.
3 ways you can create this post.
1. short product review. Talk about the product, what it does, why it’s cool, why someone would want it etc.
2. Related benefit of the product. Think of one benefit the product has, then think of two other things that give the same benefit, then write a post about 3 things with that benefit. ex. coffee maker: save money not buying coffee every day. Think of 2 other ways people can save money, then write about those three things. When you talk about saving money by making coffee at home, use your product keyword in that area and then link back to your lens.
3. Quick Tips. What are some tips people could use related to your topic. coffee maker: tips for picking the best coffee maker (find some benefits listed in the product description, use those as tips to look for) At some point use your specific product as an example of a coffee pot that meets allt hose criteria and link to your lens using your keywords.
How do I link?
These are basically like blog posts, you can link within the content of the post, you do not have to reserve your links for a “resource box”.
Make sure you use your keywords or a variation of the keyword to link back to your lens.
If you have a bunch of lenses that need links you can link to all of them from the same post. You don’t have to do a separate one for each lens.
A great way to do this is to write a “gift idea post”. You can talk about gift ideas for picky people, or gift ideas for the hard to buy for, unique gift ideas ~ (those would be the title of your post), and then write a paragraph about each of your product lenses, linking to each in its paragraph.
Do I need to write a new post for each of these sites?
If you are linking to one product and your post is only 150 words then yes. I’d write a new post for each one. If you’ve written a 3 or 4 hundred word post linking to multiple product lenses I’d mix up the paragraphs and rewrite the first and last paragraphs.
Where do I find these free ad blogs?
Some of these blogs are listed on the mindmap. But here’s alist of some of them to start with. Remember, new sites come online every day. It never hurts to Google “free ad blog” or something similar to see what else is out there. (that’s how I found most of these)
3 Step Ads (this one has an author’s RSS feed you can submit to RSS directories)
Another Free Advertising Blog (this one does not require registration)
If you have other free ad blogs you’re using, let us know in the comments, I’ll add them to the list. If you have any questions about the process, of creating these links, just ask in the comment as well. I’ll do my best to answer any questions.

I’m having a heck of a time getting my posts reviewed at some of the free ad blog sites. I noticed today I have over 30 articles in queue at some of these sites. There has got to be a faster way to build links

which ones? I’ve had no problem getting my posts reviewed and published.
There is a faster way ~ it’s called buying UAW and using it.
When you’re using only free methods you’re at the mercy of the sites ~ that’s what makes automation worth it.

To update on my progress, I have made heaps of links from your mindmap list. Thanks again
Love the site’s new look! (New to me, anyway; I took a long break from IM!) Just thought I’d mention that Another Free Ad Blog seems to require registration now. Either that or it’s a link to a different ad blog. I followed the link above and when I clicked on Post Now, it asked me to sign up. No biggie, of course, just wanted to let you know. Thx for everything!
Jackie,
I have a basic question – in doing the Christmas Cash lenses – are we supposed to be doing backlinks to our Christmas blog AND each lens or ?? I have links on my Christmas blog to each lens and I have done the RSS feeds for my Christmas blog and my lensmaster feed. Just want to make sure which way I should go with backlinking and where to concentrate my time.

Your primary focus on link building should be to your lenses ~ they are your money sites. If you have additional time go ahead and build some links to your Christmas blog ~ mine gets quite a bit of traffic during the holiday season, but your lenses are first priority.

I think I’ve mentioned before I really need to work on creating backlinks. For me, it is the most difficult part of the process. I just want to keep creating new lenses! But, the way you’ve laid out all the steps, Jackie, really makes sense. I have a few fashion-themed lenses and you’ve inspired me to start a fashion-themed blog that I can link to & from. Thanks again for the inspiration!

that’s what I did. Sometimes you just have to play around with the search term until you get what you’re looking for. I just did that search and there were 5 or so on the front page.
Hi Jackie, I would have liked to see a screen shot of how to find blogs that you can post content to. Can you just google “free ad blogs” ? (without the quotes)
Oh, sorry, you listed examples above, and I skimmed right over them.
My goof!
Great backlinking explanation, free blogs are a great way for sure to add to the variety of backlinks pointing back to your site.

The fact Google spiders have stopped by doesn’t necessarily mean it’s indexed. You need to go to Google and type in the search box site:http://yoururl.com
If your indexed it will show your site in the results ~ if not it will say it couldn’t find anything. If it doesn’t show up with the http:// try adding the www sometimes it will show up one way and not the other.
If you’re not indexed try using the blog address in the url field of a comment here, that should help.

Hi Jackie,
Do you know how to check to see if a blog or website is indexed by google?
I was looking at one of the linking products and it said they only accept blogs that are indexed already.
I have checked my host and google has crawled it does that mean it is indexed?

I’ve been studying your Backlinking 101 lessons and also working on creating backlinks. Very helpful and easy to do–thanks Jackie! With every lesson, I get a new idea about how to use backlinks to promote my website (and I’m working on building my own lens). For example, with the free ad blogs, I’m going to promote my Extreme College Survival Kit . Since it’s summer and many high school grads will soon be going away to college for the first time, there will also be many worried parents out there. The Extreme College Survival Kit goes a long way to making parents feel better about their kids moving away from home. Thanks for the great stuff, Jackie!

I have been poking around trying to learn how to make links for nearly a month now. This is the most useful thing I have read so far. I look forward to continuing the course over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the effort you have put in. Steph
Thank you very much for the list. I’ve already started using it. I have created a watch shopping comparison site. The #1 Watch Shop
