    WAHM Web 2.0 Resource Guide

    By Jackie | December 11, 2007

Why a Wahm Web 2.0 Resource Guide?

It doesn’t take much looking around to see the web is changing. It is getting more and more social as the days go on. Word of mouth can be your best friend of your worst enemy and either way is one of your best ways to get traffic to your site.

I put together this guide to Mom related Web 2.0 resources, for myself and to share with you. In a Web 2.0 world it is imperative to get involved with your niche, get to know them, provide useful information, be friendly and be part of the community.

Lucky for me, my “niche” is me! That makes it even more fun when doing my “job” and looking for resources.

Here they are, Interactive Mom, WAHM, and Business sites to get you involved in your Niche community.

Forums/Communities: Forums/Communities are a great way to meet people like yourself. Get into conversation and once you’ve provided good conversation or interesting info, leave a link to your site in your sig file. *Make sure you read the rules around sig files, each and every community and forum is different. *

Just Moms ~ Moms getting together to talk about being moms and mom related stuff.

    Maya’s Mom

Cafe Mom ~ Huge community with groups on any mom topic you can imagine.

    Mom’s Talk Network

    Contest for Moms

    Mom Junction

    The Best Moms

    Mom’s Source

IVillage ~Another huge community with groups on just about any topic you can think of.

    Mothering Community

    Kaboose

    Families.com

    WAHM Forums:

Freelance Moms ~ A friendly group of moms and a lot of WAHM resources.

    Internet Based Moms

    Frugal Mom

    Mom Gadget

    Mommy Trackd

    The Wahm Shack

Blog Communities: It was interesting as I was doing my research I found these communities that looked like blogs, but were way bigger. A perfect example of web 2.0 in action. I have added these to their own category because they are interesting and deserve to be looked at.

    Mommy Community

    Blog Her

    Work it Mom

    Top Momma

    Mommy Speak

    Pajama Mommy

    Mom Blogging

Blog Directories: Add your blog to these directories and you will find you get more traffic, and you’ll have some good backlinks too. You will probably have to put a button up on your site in return for being listed. They are usually pretty cute and you can put them together in one spot. There are tons of directories out there I tried to keep these to mom specific directories.

    Blog Catalog ~ Parenting

5 Minutes for Mom The wait to be listed is quite long, but it doesn’t hurt to apply

    BlogaMama

    The Mom Blogs

    Delightful Blogs

    Blog Flux ~ Parenting

    Dr. Moz

    Blogging Fusion ~ Mommy Bloggers

    Blog Daisy

    Mom Blog Network

    Blogs By Women

Blogs: Here are some blogs I’ve found entertaining and interesting. By being a regular reader and commenter on blogs you will get quite a bit of traffic and make some new friends. I know this has been the case for me.

Mom Blogs: Mom blogs are a great place to play. Other moms are reading them and some of them may want to quit their jobs and work from home. You should get some decent traffic from your comment link if you leave quality comments that add to the conversation.

Connecting Rainbows Life Balance for a Work at Home Mom ~ mostly mom stuff.

Den Of Wolves Life as the only female in a pack of males

Little Fun Little Learning Fun ideas and activities for kids

Nature Moms A guide to natural family living

WAHM Blogs ~ These are blogs by WAHMs. I have found the WAHM community to be friendly and supportive. It’s smart to read other wahm blogs, they are like you and those reading their blogs will probably be like you or want to be like you (a work at home mom) so you will probably get decent traffic from your comment link. **Leave good comments that add to the conversation**

My Thoughts, Ideas and Ramblings A day in the life of a stay at home/work at home mom

Make Money/Business Blogs: Reading and commenting on money making blogs is a great idea, not only do you get to learn from others, but you may find other people looking for what you have to offer. Make sure to leave worthwhile comments that add to the conversation.

In a Web 2.0 world the best thing a WAHM can do to increase her traffic and her business is get involved. Community abounds in this new day and age online, it doesn’t take much to find people to talk to and places to get involved.

I suggest you find 5 forums, and 5-10 blogs. Read, post and comment on them every day. You will be amazed at the movement you see on your blog/site/business!

    Good luck and have fun!

      Thanks for the shout out!

When I grow up, I want to be a WAHM. ;) (or at least in 2 1/2 years when my youngest starts kindergarten)

Right now I do sort of half and half and it’s pretty nice.

I would love to also mention a new women’s website (I am one of their advisors.)

http://www.DivineCaroline.com is a wonderful site that encourages women to self-publish. They also have several message boards in categories such as parenting, travel, and health.

      Thanks!

Thanks for all the great comments. I’m glad you are enjoying all the resources. Feel free to link to this post from wherever you feel appropriate.

Codie, If you are to start a blog to make money ~ you MUST use wordpress. It is the only platform that will allow you to do everything you need to do in a web 2.0 world. I started this blog over at wordpress.com and finally had to move it to keep up. (it was a huge pain, so just start with wordpress from the beginning) Feel free to get ahold of me if you need more help.

Every Keyword~ it took me forever to find a theme that I liked. I do like this one very much and you are welcome to use it too ~ it’s a public theme ;)
