Articles can be used for many many things and we’ve talked about article marketing quite a bit in the past. However, previously when we’ve talked about article marketing it’s been in terms of Squidoo lenses, getting a site indexed, and creating links to a site to build it up in the search engines. While article marketing is great for these things, it is also a great way on its own to get traffic to your site.
When you start thinking about article marketing as a traffic getting strategy you have to look at it in a little bit different light. This is not a one time deal ~ it’s an ongoing committment to a method to get traffic. It will require commitment and diligence and perserverance, but there are many people out there who almost soley rely on traffic from article marketing.
So if you’re not having a ton of luck with google or are still waiting around for them to rank your site and posts you might want to give article marketing (also known as bum marketing ~ because it’s completely free) a second look.
What does article marketing do for you?
Content creation
traffic
product creation
branding ~ online visibility
list building
Article marketing can help you do all these things, but you have to choose to do it. You have to choose to write and publish articles regularly.
So how do I get started?
Choose a platform. Most people use Ezinearticles.com, but you could choose another article directory, there are a few big ones out there.
This process is not about submitting your article to as many directories as you possibly can, it’s about becoming an authority on the topic at one directory. This is the power of consistent article marketing:
Did you see the number of page views he has? Over 1 MILLION pageviews!! That’s a lot of traffic coming Jeff’s way. Jeff Herring is the master of article marketing ~ in fact, he’s the “article marketing guy”. If you wanted to learn how to do article marketing all you would need to do is go in and read all 1410 articles. You’d know more than 99% of the rest of the internet marketing population. I bet you wouldn’t even need to read half of them to get a really good feel for the whys and hows of making it work. I’d suggest if you are going to try article marketing that you bookmark Jeff Herring’s account and if you have a question go do a little searching around ~ I bet he has the answer.
He also is on twitter and answers questions quite readily there. He should be your go to guy if you plan to seriously implement article marketing. Ok. there. (yeah and not one affiliate link there. He’s that good)
I’m not going to pretend to be a big article marketer either. If you want to know the ins and outs I suggest you follow Jeff. I do have a few secrets to getting more article views and more traffic from your articles I’d like to share today. These tricks are all focused around Ezinearticles.com.
2 tricks for getting more traffic from your existing articles
1. Most Viewed
At the bottom of every article is a list of “most viewed” articles. You can get your article more traffic by getting it on that list.
Scroll down to the bottom of the article and you’ll see where it says how many views the article has had. Now you just need to beat that to take over the top spot. In the internet marketing realm those numbers may be huge, but in other niches they will be much less. Here’s an example: on an article on social media the most viewed article had been viewed over 8000 times ~ that’s a lot to catch up to ~ however, a horse article’s most viewed was only a little over 250.
So how do you get those views? Start sending traffic to your articles. Tweet them, bookmark them, stumble them (stumbleupon can send quite a good rush of traffic to up that number).
Speaking of stumbleupon most people don’t know this but they have an advertising program ~ it’s a pay per view type thing. You an buy views for pennys. If you have an article in a popular category that you would like to see in the most viewed area you could easily drive enough views from stumbleupon for a few dollars.
2. Most published
Another area at the bottom of every article is the “most published” area. This means the article has been taken from EZA (using their code) and published on blogs or ezines or elsewhere. This is another fantastic way to get more pageviews for your article. All you have to do is go out and republish YOUR article using the code from EZA. You can put it on other blogs, on social media places, wherever you can publish content. Just make sure you use the code they provide so they can track the number of times it’s published.
Having your articles in one or both of those sections will help you get more traffic to your articles which in turn should translate to more traffic to your website.
If you have questions about article marketing I’ll do my best to answer but there are a million ways to do it ~ my best advice is to just start writing and publishing every day. You can tweak what you’re doing as you see what works and what doesn’t.
